In a fashion somewhat similar to Tabula Rusa (the mod created by @King Lemming) you can add blocks to your game and have them be dynamically added to your game.

Just for fun I'm backporting v3.2.5 to MC 1.6.4. Took a few hours to fix compile errors, now I need to weed out ALL block declarations, because pre-1.7 there's no such thing as Block.air, only NULL!
