It can pull something like 2048eu/t and pull stuff from UNDER bedrock. Yeah, I think it can drill a neat 1x1x60 hole :)

thats to op pls nerf.

But really though, we have a bunch of other drills that can dig underground. This one's just a cool little idea. It's different, and I like it. :)
I mean, you don't know about what technology it is, man. Maybe it's not one of those really efficient florescents. Maybe it's just an incredibly inefficient laser pointer.

It's very efficient at setting you on fire. I wish I could set it to output horizontally :D

What's the deal with the TE interface and everything? Is it a matter of permission, or do some people just not want to use it?

He meant the laser pointing outwards. It would be a powerful weapon.

Some mods spice up the end game and thats cool. But MFR is in my opinion exactly the type of mod that modded minecraft needs to add genuinely cool stuff to the early/mid game. I was playing on MFR in 1.4.7 and it was cool then but in 1.5.2 it is alongside tinker's construct as my favourite mods because it makes the game more fun right from the start. The progression in MFR feels more organic because you start off with say a couple of planters and harvesters and then you can move onto a bit of pastoral farming and like others have said the two are mutually supportive. The upgrade system doesn't force everything you have built into obsolescence, instead you slowly grow your capacity in a similar way that you can slowly expand your power grid.

Also powercrystals, if you are still reading this thread, the grinder and slaughterhouse are wonderfully macabre. There is a bit of an argument in England where I live between animal rights advocates and farmers and some ministers about a proposed badger cull to help control levels of bovine TB. It just makes me chuckle a bit when this is on the news while I am refining my industrial scale pink slime liberation machine.

Sorry, horrible earth destroying boreholes must be manmade :p

I'm sure lemming would just straight up give me the code if I asked, but I am honestly not a huge fan of that GUI. I just don't like the small side tabs deal. MFR also doesn't need the per-side config as much, as all of its machines are "sideless" as of 2.6 and you can insert and extract from any side.

There is intended to be some level of black humor about how terrible what you are doing actually is. That is why I've made no attempt to fix babies walking to their parents, and why ocelots drop string/fish and wolves drop bones when the grinder hits them.

The grinder also has MFR's sole easter egg as a bonus drop on a certain mob but the chance is extremely low so I doubt anyone will ever find it legitimately.

Exactly my thoughts. If I'm playing Modded Minecraft, I really don't want to repeat all the vanilla progression steps again; I'd just play vanilla. I now I'm just picking at the word, but a mod or modification changes the way the game's played. A content patch or "DLC mods" add stuff after the game. I prefer modifications. I really appreciate the small things, like RP2 (and thankfully, a separate mod now)'s project table. It's such a simple thing but it's useful. And the Iron Furnace. With a lot of mods I feel like, "So I need an automatic tree farm so I have more time to get other stuff" but the treefarm is taking up all my resources. I thought the treefarm was going to help me, not be a goal to reach. I need the treefarm now..

I really enjoy the aesthetics of MFR. And as someone that dislikes automatic mining my self I'm happy to see PC seems to have that point of view. I have the mining laser on current build mostly for looks and toss power at it when I have power that I an throw away. It is sort of Bonus ore and not a replacement to my mining needs.

Have you seen Lambert's Ion Engine thing he made for you? :D

Haven't read the entire thread, so only replying to the OP and nothing that has gone after it, but I really really like MFR. Especially the conveyor belts and the fisher. I was lamenting the loss of RP tubes when I made the move to 1.5, but after discovering these beauties, I have been able to replicate, and surpass any function that I ever used tubes for. And they look cool as hell too! The fisher is more of a convenience block. Fishing has always been the most boring minigame in Minecraft, and a way to automate it isn't a bad thing imo. I have yet to try out the mining laser, but it seems completely innovative.. I've not seen another item that functions the same way as it and I am pretty excited to getting around to playing with it :D The farm seems a little cheap when you compare it to the likes of Forestry and Steves Carts, but it's not overly OP and the other farms still have their place (If you want to spend more resources than energy for example)
The PRC is verrrrrrrrrrry powerful, like hugely powerful. But at the same time it's very limiting. For simple things that you just want a simple timer, it's price is a little excessive, but for more complex things it's a godsend.

As for the modder himself; Powercrystals... he's very active, both in pumping out bugfixes/updates and also with talking to the community, which is refreshing to see. Other modders such as KingLemming and SirSengir are also, but it's always refreshing to see.

Yeah... turns out that is a really bad idea. it looks great but I go from 120 fps to like 20 fps when I did that on my full engine light setup and I am fairly sure it crashed Liara from the lighting updates.

Looks cool. but not really FPS freindly

What would be needed then is a block where just the texture responds to the redstone level, but does not emit any light. That shouldn't hurt FPS so much.

True, but more preferred would be a mod that doesn't feature neon spamming worldgen and generally ugly blocks due to the neon effect.

I saw this thread from the very first post and typed numerous replies and deleted them. The reason .. well ... I wasn't sure each answer was appropriate.

I absolutely adore MFR, but in 1.5 I hit the gregtech recipes, now before you bash gregtech, these recipes are imposed by MFR if GT is detected by MFR.

The GT recipes are hard, I suspect they are supposed to be, lets face it GT recipes are hard naturally so MFRs interpretation is pretty accurate.

So, now to thoughts on... ...

I think MFR is pretty much (but can be improved in certain areas) spot on, it's pretty much approaching to be one of the largest mods about and one of the most useful when combined with soul shards.

I could say more, but I can't help think back to the MC 1.2.5 (tekkit) days when Redpower was so under used, it kinda reminds me of MFR right now. If people stopped and took a good look at it, they'd see so much potential in how it can be (ab)used.

It's kinda hilarious that the only problem I've found with MFR farms is storing all the resources I get.
I've got 3 DSUs full of baked potatoes and more coming...
All the wood I get from a simple 5x5 tree farm is going through 3 sawmils (partially turning it into charcoal to make torches) and powering a max sized quarry by their own.
