It's kinda hilarious that the only problem I've found with MFR farms is storing all the resources I get.
I've got 3 DSUs full of baked potatoes and more coming...
All the wood I get from a simple 5x5 tree farm is going through 3 sawmils (partially turning it into charcoal to make torches) and powering a max sized quarry by their own.

Sorry to be off topic, but if you think about it the torch recipe is pretty underpowered. A single unit of charcoal smelts 8 items but it only makes four torches.

In modded minecraft, my overprivileged self would like to see a torchgen block akin to the igneous extruder. That was a (bad) joke although that would be a nice modjam idea, although a practical torch supplying system is possible with applied energistics and translocators.

Powercrystals for world leader. World hunger will be a thing of the past. DSUs full of meat and/or veg for everyone!

You know you can turn them off after you have a surplus right? If you have 3 DSUs full of bake potatoes just turn it off. I still boggle that people do that collect stacks upon stacks of something just because.

Yeah, it boggles my mind as well, I'm no stranger to simply trashing anything I've got too much of. Heck, I'd trash a whole DSU if that was what it took.

TO THE JAY DEE GOOEY!

*5minlater*

-_-

But it's open source???

I absolutely adore MFR, but in 1.5 I hit the gregtech recipes, now before you bash gregtech, these recipes are imposed by MFR if GT is detected by MFR.

The GT recipes are hard, I suspect they are supposed to be, lets face it GT recipes are hard naturally so MFRs interpretation is pretty accurate.

No, MFR always uses the default/vanilla recipes unless you or your pack maintainer changes it. We do not do mod auto-detection for recipe sets.

Minor question. Is there a reason machines look kinda bland? Or does the laser thingy look cool? Your machines are this whiteish grey. They clash with the color of dirt!

(I need something to pick at. MFR is too good otherwise. ;-;)

Look just build in a featureless white void and they'll fit in fine what are you complaining about? :p

But they're supposed to look somewhat.. sterile, I guess. The idea is that it's everything automated in this easy and simple way, and so the textures are plain white plastic because it is the industrial future and in this future marketing decided that all products must be white (just like reality except here it's black and glossy).

I love the art style, too. Fits in well with vanilla Minecraft. Doesn't make me confused.
And I was going to show my friend MFR the other day when I was hanging out at his house, but.. we looked up the recipes and he was like, "PPPPPFFFFFFFFFFFFTTT, I'm not makin' that"... He Gregteched.. he didn't know what 152wgt meant..

So you understand awesome mod design, and you understand effective ergonomic design. You are too precious for this world.

Sorry everyone, shameless sucking up is over now. MFR is an acceptable mod.

On my last day of highschool a month ago, I decided to leave 20$ on my teacher desk and carry my chair-desk out of the door and out of school with me. I had this one chair that i really loved. And I got pretty far with it and then they caught me and told me to bring it back. The reaction was funny though, I guess it's just that unexpected.

Since we seem to be talking about MFR's stuff not looking nice (which it does, if everything else is in default) I would like to throw this out there. I use Sphax with the official FTB patch. Obviously there a few mods missing (including MFR). Well, I got sick of waiting for the official MFR Sphax release. I'm making my own :p. I probably can't distribute it, but in case any of you want a Sphax MFR patch, I'm making it. I'll post my additions on the thread on the Sphax forums. Hopefully it will be in the official release :)

I realize a lot of people like Sphax... but I happen to despise it with a fury which is unrivaled! The architect in me despises the haphazard pentagonal design (even as the amateur pixel-pusher in me realizes just how difficult a feat it is to pull that off given the constraints they work under). It just looks... derpy. Literally, it looks like Derpy went through years of digital art training just to make a MC texture pack.

Again, I'm not knocking their technical skill, or all the hard work they have put into the texture pack. It is probably the most easily recognizable and 'branded' texture pack. All you have to see is those pentahedrons and you KNOW which texture pack it is from. And I fully understand that they've got a lot of people who enjoy their texture pack, which is great. It's just... not my style.

I much prefer an elegant look like, say, JSTR.

JS is awesome, I just don't think it really fits for FTB.

If a game is made on pixels, make it pixilated. If it's made on polygons and stuff, make it sphax. It's like trying to make everything in Minecraft look roundish at the corners. It's just not going to work, and my brain keeps telling me, "no, thats not right. what the @#!*% is that, a pig? creepy as hayyyl, gurl. thats supposed to be a cube, why does it look like I can stand on it slanted? this does not work."

Sphax makes my brain want to blow up, and is one of the 2 main reasons I dont watch Yogscast, along with Simon's 7 year old screams. I can handle Sjin though, his attitude makes me happy. :)

edit: also the player viewmodel's hands in Sphax. Sharp knuckles make me mad..

MFR farms work really well in conjunction with AE level emitters, all my farmed produce sits at 1024 items, when dropping below that the level emitters on the harvesters turn off, fertilizers instantly grow the crops again.

Part of the fun for me is making just enough of an item, not 2 billion of it :)

So MFR grinders can get essence from soul shard critters, and not that you should ever need to but you can get soul shard kills from a MFR grinder.

Did I mention that the auto-enchanter is really, really strong?

Holy cross-mod exploits, Batman!
