When you are "done" will you make a mod list and a world download?

I would love to explore this map!
Sure thing.

I thought about putting a save up before, but then there were just a few more things I wanted to finish first. :p

All in all I decided that everyone would have a better experience with it, if it was after I was "done" with the map ;)

It has been some productive few days:

It occured to me some time ago that one thing was missing from the castle mound, and there was no longer any room for it: An observatory. But luckily there is a "sister mountain" nearby:
AWElS6C.png

This mountain is actually taller and this way the observatory is shielded from light and magical pollution :p

You arrive at the Observatory by means of teleportation service as posted earlier:
pns69hq.png

This is located under the small dome seen on the first image.

Going down the stairs:
HHNWhn9.png

It is a magical place, OK! So all the books and stuff don't blow away in the wind :p

Down the stairs you can get out onto a platform with some magical measuring/test/whatever equipment:
CCiHCNp.png

Flip the Lever and it will do crazy things to the sky:
Z7HcMoN.png

There is a Chiselled "Beacon", an "Unstable Cube" and an "Unstable Beacon" in the contraption. The Unstable Beacon gets toggled by the Lever.

On the platform under the main dome:
Kp2HMjU.png

Various gadgets and records etc.

Up the stairs under the dome itself:
pMplM1J.png

This is very hard to portray in a screenshot, so put in some torches to show:
TsQvhvB.png

The dome is covered in Inverted Sky Blocks, so you can enjoy the view from the comfortable indoors ;)
I wish this would show the stars clearly when it was raining, but sadly it shows the sky exactly as it is even with the weather counted in(so cloudy). Just doesn't show the actual rain.

Lastly I made a little "open sky" observation platform:
kUAC4gY.png

The Starfield Creator makes for some sparkly particle effects in the sky above the observatory.

And now for something completely different:
htnvAgg.png

I have long had the idea to make a ferry crossing across the river. But never found a good and easy to disguise way to make small moving boats. So instead I made a bridge.

Designed it to open, allowing larger boats to pass
HgzaDuA.png

It doesn't really, it is purely cosmetic.

But by creating a link across this natural barrier, some new protection was needed:
Xu0jZsU.png

KD7Ij0z.png

Occasionally a few mobs will spawn on this side, and try to cross. But mostly just for show as well ;)
I also extended the road going from the bridge/checkpoint so that it now goes all the way to a nearby village.

While I was at it, I decided that the mines could also use some extra protection:
OMF4boN.png

Built this little fort so they always have guards on hand, in case of bandit attacks etc. High risk business with all those valuables flowing through the place...
I would have guards patrolling the mine area, but minecarts and carpenter's slopes/collapsible are not a good combo with NPCs...

Extensive experiments on the observatory had the unforeseen consequence of bringing down pieces of the SKY! Twice!

JkpBcPj.png

In order to learn why and how this has happened and prevent it from happening again(or how to replicate it ), an expedition have been sent out to investigate:

Magical expert: check, Dwarven geologist: check, Guards: Check.

Chilling at the camp at night:

Back at the castle a new wing was opened to accommodate more students/scholars at the various magical colleges:

Dining area:

Study and training area:

Sleeping quarters:

And lastly I added a Teleportation Service wizard to the Thaumcraft towers "lobby":

Oh wow...!!! I love your work @rhn :) What is the block emitting the red lightning? That looks very snazzy! Absolutely fantastic stuff!

And the quest to polish everything off before the end continues:

New facade details for Thaumcraft tower:
iKt2kgv.png

This have been a long time coming. I wish I could do more to the diagonal sides, but no connected textures on carpenter's blocks makes it hard :(

Armoury for the guards:
nnMTCNu.png

XZSW3eE.png

gLQnNCv.png

In the main tower of the cathedral(the clock tower) I built a library/trophy room:
SYdGm0P.png

6hVECUU.png

Located just below the master bedroom.

Below that a personal armoury:
vdbCKI1.png

(still need a few details and armours/weapons)

Off the side the Thaumcraft tower:
PgBBTgj.png

A new building housing a: Bathhouse.

Access from the Thaumcraft towers lobby:
C7SZzkx.png

Down the stairs(just to the left in the picture) from the lobby is the dressing rooms.

Lounge area:
oBHZcKj.png

The bath:
g7lFn5k.png

wUbMjqZ.png

(didn't work out so well as the last one I did in the portal room)

Down at the farms:
SA4Nvas.png

A vineyard. Well, blackberry farm... but... :p

Hrd9VBO.png

Was a PITA first getting all those bushes(Hoe of Growth) and then using MANY Openblocks Magic Pencils to limit their growth to two blocks tall :p

Could not resist a bit of interior details of the winery:
CGYaaqk.png

Basement:
BewA6Ue.png

EDIT: Oh and I have worked on expanding the farms a lot, so they could feasibly support the castle and town:
kLjRtWH.png

Not at all there yet. It takes ages to make each farm plot the way I like them :p

I have also added fruit trees(a couple of cherry variants I traded with villagers for. I mostly just wanted trees with fruit textures without having to breed them :p) and various other small details.

Was that a cow I saw in your trophy room? Glad I managed to see how that bath room ended up after my computer decided to restart itself while you were working on it in stream... I might take some inspiration from that roof actually... and that 'vineyard'. That's assuming I can find some blue/blackberry bushes... they seem to be nowhere to be found atm...

Yeah :p
I kinda ran out of trophies and just placed a cow and pig trophy in the far corner as placeholders. Got the Nether farms running in hopes for a Ghast and Pigman trophy. For some reason I never got one of those...

Just checked and there is a Ghast trophy in the ME network now, but still no Pigman. Odd since pigmen spawn in the same farm as Blazes, and I have 100 Blaze trophies.

That's assuming I can find some blue/blackberry bushes... they seem to be nowhere to be found atm...
I think they were made biome specific actually. But for some reason I have not seen a single Maloberry bush in this playthrough...

The Botania "Lodge's" cellar was originally done very crudely. Just a dirt/stone cave with a lot of wires and automation. Has been a goal to upgrade it for a long time:

0x2fLRA.png

This Mana Distributor and Spreaders are purely for redirecting the mana.
Just above is another Mana Distributor and four pools with Sparks that distribute the mana to the rest of the lodge(Recessive->normal->Dominant sparks). These four pools are also monitored with BC gates to turn ON/OFF things.

Some Thermalillies on a Seranade of the Nether, because why not? :p

Endoflames:
WaHSRkp.png

Burning away some of the overflow Charcoal, Coal and Alumentum. Not really making a dent, could add more. But don't really need more mana and like the symmetry, so...

In the other side I added a Dandelifeon setup:
gApL5Gu.png

It has just placed down the 20 Cellular blocks needed to start.

cni4nLH.png

After the first few ticks: the growth of new block will trigger a Block Update Detector (Advanced) and pistons push up the floor two places(the Mossy Livingrock seen in the picture). The other three in the sides decay on their own. For the rest of the lifecycle the setup will keep producing lots of blocks in the middle, thereby producing Mana.

A bit of behind the scenes stuff:
dmqXPHL.png

I use the Advanced version of the BUD in conjunction with a State Cell(2 secs). This is because the A-BUD will detect the ageing of the cells and thereby constantly pulse as long as there is a living Cellular Block on top of it. With the State Cell this means that it will keep the Pistons extended for the whole duration and not just push them up once. Same could be achieved with using the normal BUD and then using the State Cell purely as a Timer, but this is a bit more robust.

Timer+Toggle Switch switches between Growth and block placement/mana discharge state. Have the Timer set to 60 secs, can probably be reduced a little bit. The Mana Spreader is really the limiting factor, but lenses can probably help that. I dont produce enough Cactus for that to be a problem though :)

2bbUni1.png

Using a Rannuncarpus to place the Cellular blocks. Challenge has been to only give it 20 blocks and ONLY attempt to give it blocks if there was actually 20 blocks to give(you guessed it, it runs of overflow cactus :p).
What I came up with is this:
  • Logistics Supplier pipe tries to keep the left Drawer stocked with a stack of Cellular blocks(crafts them through crafting pipe).
  • Logistics Supplier pipe on the second Drawer(up top) set to stock 20 Cellular blocks in Full request mode will only pull blocks if it can pull exactly 20 blocks.
  • Item Translocators with applied Diamond Nugget(filtered with 20 Cellular Blocks) and Redstone(so it can be toggled on and off with redstone signal).
  • Hopper on Open crate.
Now I apply inverted signal to the Translocators and the Hopper(you can apply the same signal and then just set the Translocator accordingly by hitting the nob). This means that in one state the Hopper will be loaded with exactly 20 blocks, but not push them out. And in the other state the Hopper will push them out, but not get loaded. And the Logistic Supplier Pipe will make sure that the system only ever have blocks available in sets of 20.

The Dandelifeon "map" is based on a setup I found on reddit btw, I did not come up with it on my own. http://imgur.com/a/l27tj

Outside the Botania Lodge I built a little hut to house the Twilight Forest portal:
dF7rBCl.png

Also at the Blood Magic tower I did a bit of detail work:
udcvgFi.png

I needed a place to set up the QED and then the rest of the floor was quite empty.
Also did some odd details in the rest of the tower, and well the rest of the castle in general. But not going to bore you with such small stuff :p

I am now fairly certain that I am done with the castle/magic world. I have achieved everything I wanted to and much more. There are probably things that I still can do, but it is not things that I feel that I at all need to do.

To that extent I have spend way too long today taking way too many screenshots of everything and making an Imgur Album of the whole build.

Magical Castle final tour

Warning: The album contains over 200+ images.

As promised earlier I present the save of the TPPI2 world:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/9lixp3fo1qep2ce/TPPI2 castleworld.rar?dl=0

As usual I cannot share the entire installation or pack. Instead it is based on the TPPI2 0.2.5 installation. In the rar file you will find the save, the config folder and screenshots of the mod folders showing disabled and added mods and their version numbers.
I have had it running on a dedicated server, but it has been running quite smoothly, so should not be too difficult to get running.

You should spawn on the mountain near the observatory. You should be able to just follow the purple beacon and go talk to the Teleportation wizard to get transported to the castle. I have placed all my items in the Clocktowers Armoury for you to play with/convenience.

Have fun exploring.

Magnificent build, I enjoyed the album so much I wanted to explore it for myself. Downloading your configs and loading them into tppi client launches no issues however I attempted to create a server with your map and mod setup etc but it crashes on load with no crash report created any ideas?

The map will load as a singleplayer world so it really seems to be an issue with mods, configs, etc on the server end. Did you do anything special to your server?

Also what texture pack?

Sorry for late responses, got the thread unwatched lol:p
Nice job. Time for a break from MC I guess?
Already working on the next world ;)

I don't recall doing anything specific to get the server working. I simply downloaded the server pack from the launcher, copied over the save, configs and added mods and that was about it.
I am not really an expert on setting up the servers, I just muddle my way through it. But make sure you give it enough RAM, have the up to date Java, make sure you don't have any client side only mods/APIs. Other than that I really don't know.

And yes I used Soartex Fanver.
I also added Dokucraft CustomNPCs resources: http://www.kodevelopment.nl/minecraft/customnpcs/packs
Those are only x32 and you will have to modify the file structure to make it fit the new CustomNPCs mods file structure. But it was the best I could find.

Did I see somewhere that your next build is going to be sci-fi? Could I request some builds inside AE2 spatial storage dimensions, and some playing with Lapis Caelestis? ^_^
