It's not a grey area lol, if you murder someone and no one notices it's still a crime.

Do not equate murder and copyright infringement. They are different ethically, morally, and under the law. Sociopathic kids these days...

Seriously though, in general copyright infringement only happens when there is a complaint. I have hundreds of photos online that are used daily and many times without adhering to the terms of my license. To actually litigate every one of them would be a huge burden for minimal payout. And as in most cases no one is making appreciable money (someone just tumblr's something or shares it on facebook or uses it as an eyecatch for an article/blogpost without advertising) I don't see the point.

I think they mean programming and using someone else's code without understanding it.

Not in the sense of they don't like cars because someone else worked on them. :p

Precisely, it feels like I've accomplished more if I set up the machine entirely myself using the blocks from the mods, while somebody elses code feels like they've set it up for me, which means it doesn't feel right.

No, I mean there is a way to simulate a timer.
Unless a timer has been added.

Dude. What the heck? There is a group of dedicated timer functions in the programmable rednet controller. The Square Wave generator even says "(timer)" in the description. How is that not a timer? It's a timer! And it's a lot more powerful than the RP2 timer.

Hey as much as I wish the legal system recognized shades of grey, it doesn't. Legality is binary, which is what I was obviously commenting on and not equating the two (murder and copyright infringement) :p

Of course you're either guilty or not guilty, there's absolutely no middle ground in what your sentence is. Nope, none at all. Getting convicted of murder or shoplifting gets you the same sentence. Always, no exceptions. Yep, absolutely zero shades of grey in there.

You're not even guilty or not guilty, because you can also plead "no contest" in many cases. There's also plea bargains, and a whole bunch of other things.

Legality is not binary, and you're an idiot if you think it is.

Seriously, equating murder with copyright infringement (not even that unless the guy distributes it, for fuck's sake!) is fucking moronic.

This entire subject of RP2 is a three-ring circus of intellectual superiority, people accusing each other of everything from ad hominem to white knighting, and people just shouting at each other and ignoring everything they don't believe.

Edit: Aren't these posts supposed to merge? I could have sworn I've seen them do that before...

Yanno, I think I'm starting to notice a tangent...could be my imagination, though.

It's not your imagination.

Wrong.

Legality is not binary in any modestly complex legal system until a judge rules on the case.

Vanish forever, I've got precious little time for people who backup hyperbole with lousy arguments.

Are you dense? Or do you just not understand what binary means. Guilty........ not guilty (that ruling you yourself are referring to). There can be shades of grey in the PUNISHMENT. A thing is illegal or it isn't. What I apparently have to do here is unscrew your skull and massage your brain for you: I was not suggesting that murder is any way shape or form equivalent to copyright infringement, it was merely a literary tool. I was pointing out that Elo pressing charges or not is irrelevant to the legality of the actual act being performed.

Wow I'd only come here cause of Kirins alert, didn't notice this babbling.

OKKKKKK so.... "Of course you're either guilty or not guilty, there's absolutely no middle ground in what your sentence is. Nope, none at all. Getting convicted of murder or shoplifting gets you the same sentence." Do you like, do you realize those are different topics you've pushed into one sentence? guilty / not guilty =/= same punishment for different fucking crimes?? like... what?!

No contest is guilty, plea bargains are guilty.

Let the grownups talk please.[DOUBLEPOST=1369640427][/DOUBLEPOST]Do you all really think I was saying that murder and copyright infringement are the same? I can't believe yall are that stupid, this has to be trolling.

That picture alone is more interesting than the entirety of the completely OT debate regarding binary legality.

So put the troll on ignore and let's talk math.

Pop quiz. You need to work this equation in your head. Spoiler your solution.

You have 7 friends over visiting and they want a slice of delicious taeberry pie. You want one too. Your friends are a litigious and jealous bunch (probably forumites) and all demand exactly equal pieces. "Not a problem!" you shout. But as you pull out your only knife, you realize it only has 3 cuts left before its durability runs out and it breaks. There's no time to mine more iron for a new knife.

How can you cut the pie with radius S such that 8 people can have equally sized pieces using only 3 cuts?

cut it into quarters so it is 4 quadrants and then cut it sideways so it is 8

My question: What is the most common and least common digit in the numbers from 1 to 1000 (inclusive)

Close, but this means that some people get ingredients that others don't. In the spirit of litigious friends: they all kill each other fighting for crust. Try again.

Cut in half. Using your infinite durability pie-slice, carefully line up one half on top of the other. Cut the stack in half. Desipite the hawkish glares of your litigous friends, you manage to accurately pile the quarters - like a nerd pole but more delicious. Cut this stack in half; social ostracism averted.

This is a good answer. Not the only one tho.

The terms "illegal" and "legal" may be binary, but nothing else about the legal system is. There are variances for the type of crime involved, the severity of the crime, etc.

Furthermore, civil "crimes" are not "illegal". You may use the words such that they are, but by legal definitions they are not. So even your base word choice doesn't defend your asinine claim that murder and copyright violations are on the same level.

oh hey, the weekly redpower flamewar thread, already found the gregtech one, now just need the "punchin wood iz op plz nerf" thread

Except everything except the lawyer thing is the truth. Minecraft mods can only be created by decompiling and deobfuscating copyrighted code and then illegally redistributing said changes. While Forge mods technically avoid this, Forge itself is illegal, since contains Mojang's code. Oh noes!

The Minecrafting modding community runs on breaking the law and hypocrisy. That's the truth.

Cue the bitter mod fanboys explain in great detail why their mod author is in the right.

mod makers high as fuck, thinking that when they post their code on the internet they have full power over it and shit.
