True, but if I view a shitty let's play my impression of the game is the same, and my chances of trying it are slim.

Example I thought FTB BnB sucked due to the let's play. Then I watched SSundees and had to play it due to the amount of fun he made it seem. That impression stuck and I think BnB is one of the best ftb packs ever.
But saying the companies should be in charge of who records videos of their product is like saying the Government should only allow people who have positive things to say about them to speak.

Same goes for MC. I thought it sucked, but once I watched Pbg and his friends do a hardcore let's play I had to play it, and that impression stuck the last 3 years of playing MC.
Then stop watching bad Youtubers and get your game references from the ones that know what they are doing!

Its the same as viewing a review of a product on a dubious site and trust it. Nitendo didnt shutdown LP's coz they were bad LP's, they shut them down because they were good LP's with a lot of subscribers, thousands of views and they were showing the problems the product had! In the end, Nintendo was trying to cheat their clients into buying a good product when it was not so good. Their action backfired so badly that their reputation got even worst.

This isn't real life were talking about. This is vide games, which have no true meaning in real life.
bruh...

We're talking about you watching a video of a guy doing a bad let's play and deciding you don't like that game based on that alone, and assuming that everybody consumes their games in this manner. Nothing more, nothing less.

The truth is most people don't make up their mind about a game based on a let's play. They may factor it into the big equation, sure, but to say that it's the defining make or break factor for most people is flat out wrong. It may be for you, and that's your opinion, so please... Thanks. :)

Like the Sim's... No reviews of the game until it gets launched, so we can at least sell a dozen copies befor the reviews come out :p

Which, in the end, it was not so bad, it seems

And that would be double-plus ungood.

Actually, the line between criticism and slander is ridiculously complicated.

People accuse critics of slander all the time, but equally, slander is not valuable as criticism and we're a little quick to defend people there sometimes, simply because we perceive a David vs Goliath situation.

You do realize that the Infrared "spy" camera you mentioned is not even sold with the system anymore?
This thread has passed from paranoid to fear-mongering.

My opinion can be summed up with this comic:
http://www.gucomics.com/comic/

You think the same thing isn't going on with countless mobile devices and webcams? Every laptop with a webcam and microphone can be turned into a spying device with very little effort, not to mention phones and tablets.

In the mid-80's I was working at a research facility in Berkeley, Ca. as a Sr. R&D Tech/Unix Admin (small company, many hats). When we got our first Sun Sparcstations in we had great fun playing some of the sounds from the included library but redirecting the output to someone else's workstation... The toilet flush was a favorite, BTW :D With appropriate access permissions it is very simple to activate both audio and video circuits on a target and redirect the data to another system. This is how keyloggers work as well.

The very first occurrence of "remote video spying" I heard about happened in the early 80s shortly after someone at some University experimented with a prototype digital video camera to monitor the coffee pot in the break-room... This soon led to video conference calls. Shortly after that the first snooping occurred.

So what were the dinosaurs really like, anyway? In person, I mean ;)

There are certain exploits that can be used for far more nefarious purposes. One night some friends and i ran through a scenario where one could scout targets for burglary while wardriving. The exploit is built right into ie, so it got kind of scary. :p

By letting people freely do let's plays they never improve or become better as an entertainer. They sit in a corner and cry about how they can't develop fans or make useful videos. Then they go back to making crappy videos and never improve themselves. You think PBG called up Nintendo and said "Hey owner of Nintendo can I do a let's play"? Hell no. His videos brought in a small fanbase due to the entertainment value so Nintendo decided to sponsor Pbg and all his Nintendo based videos. If he would have had bad entertainment value or no acting skills Nintendo would have shut his videos down, and have every right to. It's not your game or idea, it's the company's. They should have a right to control the things they create. Your paying 60$ to play their game, not make crappy un entertaining videos just from passion. Passion is nothing without skill.

You shouldn't let yourself be so impressionable. Never let one a-hole sway your opinion about anything, or you'll be in bad shape later in life. :p

That shape is a disc (which is surprisingly un-conducive to human endeavor) caused by the constant spinning you'll be doing.

As far as I'm concerned most of you here are bad at expressing opinions or debating. They should control who speaks in in threads as well. Never even once did some of you try to express what your feeling in hopes of a positive outcome. Most of you imeaditly disagree with no understanding from the opposite side. It's almost like debating with wet paint on a wall, but at least the wall has a valid reason to have wet paint on it.

I think we should stop this "debate" before it gets out of hand anymore.

The problem lies in the fact that a) nobody has concrete evidence of what Microsoft will or won't do in the future. (edit: because it doesn't exist) And b) Is largely argued either subjectively, or otherwise heavily influenced by emotion.

I think we should stop this "debate" before it gets out of hand anymore.

I think I've said that a couple times already. Also, it was out of hand 68 pages ago. :p
