Careful with broad assumptions.

I'm practically addicted to MFR, but I recognize that it makes many things way too simple. Farming is a slight example; mob farming is a big example. Its just too easy to set up a blaze or ender farm.

This is excellent in many packs. But in some where technological difficulty and heavy grinding are part of the experience, it takes away from the main objective.

And yes, as a result, many people are just not going to like the pack :)

Agreed. I loved MFR, but after I realized that a game is just so much more fun when you have delayed gratification, or the concept where an experience is much more gratifying when you have to work or wait for it, I turned to less overpowered methods of doing things.

People won't like this pack, but they don't matter. What matters is the people who are going to play it and have fun doing so.

EDIT: On another note, CarbonBasedGhost, If it isn't too hard anyway, I think you should keep the pack very minimal. No biome mods, or decoration mods. Those would distract from the main point, which is to learn Gregtech.

IC2
Gregtech
Bit of Thaumcraft
PFAA
etc.

I see what you did there.

"bit of thaumcraft" indeed. Just slip that in :p

Joking aside; ^^^ All really good points.

What are you using for World-Gen? Just vanilla or are you planning on a biomes mod?

Also what is being done for item transportation? May I reccomend Railcraft with all machines that take/generate MJ power with their recipes removed?
Highlands is a maybe.

I will do railcraft because it plays very nicely with Gregtech, and GT has it's own item/fluid pipes.

Sounds like you have a lot to work with sir. Really looking forward to seeing a progress update; this is a project I'd be sad to see turn into vaporware.

Applied Energistics, Extra Cells, Railcraft, Chisel Carpenter's Blocks, Bibliocraft and Highlands are being added. I now will see about getting permissions and incorporating them into the pack.

Haha thanks. I do like to activate my top secret Thaumcraft Cloaking Device for slipping it under the radar. ;)

What does CustomOreGen have that makes it a better choice than COFHCore?

From what I understood, it's more PFAA rather than just custom ore gen mod. From what I read on the forum thread, with that mod combo, the "style" of how the "ore" spawns, and the manner in which you process them become very different.

I also suspect that, because of all the novelty in ore names and the kind of process needed to yield metals, it would all but eliminate (at least dissuade) all those frequent refrains of
"I could have used <machine-name> from <mod-name> and would have already got 3x<items> waaaaaay quicker than this <insert-swear-word> gregtech machine"

from the players ;)

I am also complaining to the manager that there is a fly in my soup this would have been an ideal publicity for EXBL, which seems unlikely now. :p

Yay, more probably annoying suggestions!
  • Open Computers - Computers that match the 'hard' theme and have GTech recipes.
  • Gravi Suite - What IC2 pack is complete without it?
  • Nuclear Control - ^^
  • IC2 Recipe Fixer - Aparently several IC2 recipes don't work so well with the MAC, this fixes that.
  • MFFS (Calclavia Version) - A great mod with IC2 roots. Allows so much to do with force fields and teleportation. Would need serious rereciping.
  • WRCBE - Wireless redstone, that's awesome!
  • ICBM - Explosions, missiles and a mod that everybody should use. Sulfur ore gen is so cool.
  • Resonant Induction - This mod is particularly understandable to leave out as it adds it's own tech tree. I can't really recommend it without suggesting you remove some items in favour or GregTech Versions and rereciping it. This would probably change the pack from GregTech-focused to Lesser-Used Mods based. The one upside to this mod is how damn cool it is.
  • NEI Plugins - Adds a bunch of neat tools that many people assume are part of base NEI
  • NEI Addons - ^^
  • Natura - Goes great with Highlands. IMHO World-Gen looks wrong without it.
  • Bibliowoods Higlands - You can use Highlands woods for Bibliocraft blocks, what's not to love?
  • JourneyMap - I feel you need a minimap and with all the additions to this mod it blows away all the competition easily. Also one of the only 2 minimap mods that have easy permissions.
  • COFH Core - Great for tweaking World Gen to make it harder
  • Inventory Tweaks - @slowpoke once said it us the only mod that should be added into Vanilla.
  • Mouse Tweaks - An overlooked companion to Inventory Tweaks that adds lots of neat mouse features.
  • Forge Multipart - My buildings just look wrong without it.
  • JABBA - Because barrels are a great method of item storage
  • BetterStorage - More interesting than IronChests, adds much more content. Synergieses with Bibliocraft.
  • Obsidian Pressure Plates - Mobs don't work on it, that's pretty useful, no?
  • Flat Signs - Door mats and more.
In my modpack I always add Highlands, BoP and ATG, just to give my users a choice.

These all in addition to my other suggestions
  • Galacticraft
  • Mekanism
  • Modular Powersuits
  • Modular Powersuits Addons
  • Project-Red
  • Underground Biome Constructs
Forgive me if I got carried away, I'm just trying to be helpful.[DOUBLEPOST=1405032925][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh and I sent you a PM asking if I could be further involved in the project.

As a reminder to everyone, I don't think a "look at how cool GT is and what it can do" pack is what we need. The name of this pack is "Learn GT via HQM" and for gods sake, learning GT doesn't require everything one can shoehorn into a pack due to relation with GT. The core is flat out "GT and learning how to use it". So, I suggest using GT and as few other "optional" mods as possible. No energy generation unless it is natively EU. No mods that are enjoyable and have "GT Mode" Recipes because there is enjoyable and what people think GT is. No mods rebalanced to fit GT recipes and whatnot because then we have to make it very damn clear that those recipes are added by the modpack and not by GT.

Pare it down to the basics. GT and some aesthetics. Then ask yourself: If I add something, does it help learn GT and not just show shortcuts to do what GT does?
No Mek. No RI. No mods with Quarries. No mods with GT recipes that aren't made for GregiousT or use GT recipes that GT itself uses.(*such as solar panels made like in GT, or outright needing Solar Panels from IC2 and thus GT changes fit anyway)

Yep, I agree 100%, And if anyone wants a reason to why I added these new sets of mods:

  1. Applied Energistics - Pretty much essential if you want to progress beyond a certain point in GT
  2. Extra Cells - ^
  3. Railcraft - With PFAA and GT you will need to travel to different biomes, this should help, also this is the best way to transport things far distance and not kill the game with lag
  4. Chisel and Carpenter's Blocks and Bibliocraft - For the aesthetic type so you have some way to channel your stress (also some more complex reasons it's just that it would take to long to say)
  5. Highlands - moderately small world gen to encourage exploration and add a little fun

Also the content I approved of in this post is purely utility except for Bibliowoods Highlands edition (which goes hand in hand with adding bibliowoods and highlands)[DOUBLEPOST=1405046406][/DOUBLEPOST]

Hope you get this pack assembled. GT needs moar love.

Also, you will need to completely rewrite this for 1.7.2 once GT5 is out of beta, much stuff have changed so far.
Ya, I think I am done the server as it has attracted to many non-mature members. I was the 22nd member when I joined so it was a very small and mature community (shockingly Greg was the most vulgar). Now the server is regularly "crowded".
While the server player list might be "big", the highest peak we had was 19 players and on "crowded" times we have about 10-12. It is normally playable and the community is still mature enough, no problems have happened so far. We even have a dynmap to show people's bases and all... Town and railways are slowly coming in too.

By the way, did you even join on kirara 2.0 (for MC 1.7.2 and GT 5 which changed a LOT of things)? I don't recall your name.
