1.2.5 to 1.3 was a large update to Minecraft's engine that merged single and multiplayer. By the time she had tweeted (Ugh I hate using that word) They had already released many snapshots for 1.4.

Pretty soon 1.6 snapshots will start rolling out, pressuring mod authors to prepare for that update instead of 1.5. If that happens, it's understandable.

Edit: Haha of course! Today's the first 1.6 snapshot.

Do keep in mind that should could open the mod dev team up and ask for help. It's not like somehow she's required not to. Her decisions, which she has every right to make, lead to this outcome and slow release schedule. She could even farm out bugfixes and simple porting and texture recutting to friends who would probably be eager to help.

When I see people behaving this way in the software industry, it's usually pride or a license agreement that makes them act this way. Since I doubt it's the latter, I have a lot of trouble feeling sympathy for the difficulties she's experiencing. We open source software for real reasons, and many of those are economic and or selfish reasons.

It most likely is for selfish reasons, but I can understand them. RP2 seems to be something she prefers to have full control over her own mod. I can't really blame her for it,I'm sure if I ever got into the modding seem (Which my brain keeps telling me to at least try to) I'd probably go the same route. Not because I don't want others to meddle with my mod's core, but because if there is a problem with it, I want to learn how to fix it.

Also, she DID put RP2's beta on the forgecraft server. She at least beta tests it before releasing, meaning she does involve others with development.

I think Elo doesn't want the mod open-source for a reason, and personally I respect it.
Though one thing I don't understand is why she doesn't get any help from other coders to make the updates faster, seems rather strange.

Also I really don't like the new snapshot, the horses and mules look so stupid.

I've heard it's trivial to manufacture non-jewelry-quality purple rubes, but the clearer reds are much more difficult to synthesize because of a bunch of factors I don't really understand. Is this incorrect? I've never seen an example of one, and I did look around quite a bit. My wife has a bit of a weakness for them; the wedding ring I gave her was a ruby ring and I, uh, can't exactly follow that up very often without breaking the bank.

Well, that depends on what you mean by "Jewelery-quality", however, as far as the clearer part it's actually backwards.

It's easier to make more perfect/clear gems than the imperfect. This is because it's more difficult to control a naturally chaotic system. Part of the process for synthetic gems involves removing as many variables, and as many impurities as possible. This way, you have less junk gems. For example, gems that fractured.

It should be quite easy to find extremely pure synthetic/artificial rubies for quite cheap. I spent less than a minute looking, and came across one site: http://www.geolite.com/ruby.htm

Now, I just found that through Google really quickly, so I can not vouch for the site in any way shape or form. It is purely an example.

they don't have a hitbox, but I wouldn't be surprised if they got the idea from RP2/Immibis

She does not need to open source it to bring more members on the team. She does not need to lose or yield distribution rights if she made the source code public. She has already made human readable source code public by virtue of how she distributes her jars and how java compiles things. So it is weird, I agree.

Though one thing I don't understand is why she doesn't get any help from other coders to make the updates faster, seems rather strange.

perhaps she has a particular way of coding that doesn't suit teamwork very well? I don't know much about coding but one thing I did learn was that it's very difficult for one person to just jump into anothers code and understand immediately what's going on, that was my lecturers reasoning for adding comment breaks every few lines. Who knows her reasoning, either way it's her right and we gotta respect that, no matter whether we think it is a good or bad move on her part.[DOUBLEPOST=1366321306][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yea, I'll have to look it up eventually.

Why no seahorses?
because Mojang aparently are afraid of the ocean, they had bad experiences with squid (they still fly, what the absolute fuck) and so just left that area of worldgen completely alone, never to be fucked with again.

Wow, just had a nice post all about having currents in the water moving faster than boats, but it's gone. There was another part, too, about all the possible land transportation, why add another one, it's just annoying how their updates are so constant but so minor.

They do that on purpose. They don't want to just add a bunch of content. They merely want to provide the frameworks for everything else to be based off of. This, and they also have to maintain the theme and such of the original game. Change much and you will lose people.

I have friends that don't want to touch FTB because it is way too much. They want only vanilla MC. ( They're crazy, I know...but that's the way it is. )

I'll take 'em and enjoy them. Most other game companies would have long ago abandoned the game for greener pastures. Sure I'd like to see more stuff (mod api, ocean life, <other cool item here>.) but I'm just happy they are continuing to add content at all.

Okay, let me rephrase :p
I don't want them to add a bunch of content, I want them to add add major updates, but with lots of fixes. Most importantly being the slowness issues people without supercomputers may come across. Optifine's awesomeness should have been built into minecraft day 1.[DOUBLEPOST=1366322105][/DOUBLEPOST]

It's nice that they're updating, but they should be updating fixes and stuff.

Maybe they're going to add craploads of new content, and one day, hit us with a bunch of game improvements! :D

An API would be preferable to anything else. Who knows wtf they are thinking. Also performance enhancements. There is zero reason in this day and age a 256 texture pack should have any impact on performance on a GPU made in the last five years and even the integrated ones.

Maybe they think better graphics are stupid and don't want to support them?
