My AM2 crafting altar exploded when I left teleported to different chunks (thereby unloading the ones in which the altar was) to retrieve a spell ingredient I had forgotten, then returned within 20 seconds. (I was in the middle of crafting a spell, and floral dye from Botania doesn't count as Minecraft "dye" in this respect, apparently, so I had to rush off and find a replacement.)
Is that... normal?

Doesn't sound like it. Did it actually explode like TNT does, or did it just reset itself and eat all the ingredients you'd fed into it?

And are you sure that you didn't have a creeper sneak up on you?

So I want to start a server but i am wondering how much ram i will need to dedicate to the server through a host website for about 5 people to play comfortably, ( Feed the Beast Unstable pack) any info would help, I am on a budget currently so the cheapest I can go with making it still smooth is prefered.

In 1.7.10, is there any way to passively create water in the nether? Preferably similar to how the Aqueous Accumulator did it in 1.6. I was told that it no longer does this as of 1.7, but haven't tested it.

edit: Okay, turns out it's a config option within TE. Ignore this question ;)

That is honestly a question with an revolving door answer. The pack is not even finalized, mods could be added or removed and once enough are ported to 1.7.10 then the pack will likely be abandoned. You could probably manage with 3 gigs of memory, what's your budget?

The ram type needed by your machine is the main question... Older tech tends to be more expensive. As an example, I used to work on Point-of-Sale systems (cash registers) that even 2 years ago were 80486 based and couldn't even work with some 1GB drives, having originally had 128MB! A 240MB drive cost over $400 at the time, when 80GB drives were less than $80!

I know that DDR2 memory is more expensive than DDR3 is now, and I can get 4GB (2x2GB) of 1600Mhz DDR3 for $52 at Fry's.

I currently have 8GB. My next upgrade to 16GB (2x8GB) of 2400Mhz DDR3 is down to $209.

He is asking about a server host. They don't really advertise DDR2 vs DDR3 vs DDR4. Most places are or already have cycled out all the old tech.

Sorry, I assumed the poster was setting up his own hardware like I would.

I Would think that any legit company offering hosting services specific to a game like Minecraft would have guidelines available with regard to player capacity requirements.

Quite sure. As soon as I teleported back, I heard an explosion, and when the chunks actually were loaded around me, the altar was no more; the only remnants were a hole in the ground and FZ's diamond fragments, from my (maybe too) nearby light nexus.
To recap: I had left a spell crafting process in progress, went away from the chunks, came back and heard an explosion, and the altar was obliterated. No mobs, no events, nothing except unloading and loading of chunks.

And then later I was semi-not-quite-so-much-killed by another player, who got my morph, but I didn't exactly die because I had a Random Things' white stone which saved me but caused the other mods that had registered my death (Morph, OpenBlocks' gravestone etc.) to whack out and make things go wrong - such as inability to place/destroy blocks, use anything, move, interact... that was fun. Fixed by a world reload. o_o

well my computer itself has 24 gigs of ram so idk where i would start to get my own server online to play with friends so if someone wants to pm me that would be amazing with more info and just the cheaper the better, i would prob split the costs withone other person for the server unless somehow i dont need to have a host.
