I think I read that the only metal that doesn't need to be smelted is Thaumium, also, in the newer versions it requires a brick or an ingot to create the metal ingot cast.

Hello, basically I've added some mods into my FTB Ultimate and now everytime I launch it tells me there's a new mod pack version available. It's only 1 extra click I know but it gets slightly annoying after a while and I wonder if there's a way to disable it? Thanks Ry

In the Ultimate config folder there's already a MineChem file, I haven't checked them out to see if they're the same yet though.
