    1.7.10 Alpha Packs

Hmm, I have opposite experience. At least in 1.6.4. The TE conduits are laggy for me. I once had a big base with them and I replaced all with EnderIO conduits to get a huge reduction in lag. Can you elaborate on that? How would that work exactly (note that I'm also a mod developer so you can...

    Favorite method of power generation?

I also go nucleair. For now I have only used BigReactors but I do want to have a shot at making a ReactorCraft reactor at some point in the future.

    1.7.10 Alpha Packs

Not sure what you mean by lite but here is the size in bytes of the jars: EnderIO: 3Megs Thermal Expansion: 3.5 Megs (+ 1 megs for Thermal Foundation, + 1 megs for CoFHCore) So in jar size EnderIO is lighter then Thermal Expansion.

    1.7.10 Alpha Packs

What about EnderIO? Even in 1.6.4 EnderIO was very good with an excellent conduit system (four types of conduits in a single block and a good facade system to hide them in walls). In 1.7.10 EnderIO is even better. It is one of my favorite tech mods.

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

All speculation and fear mongering. You don't know this will happen. There is nothing (right now) indicating that.

Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

BTW, just revived my own C++/python based Minecraft lookalike (yah! It still works :-) ). Here is a screenshot: It is nothing more then a voxel engine right now. Supports biomes, inventory system and modding system. But all very very WIP and I'm currently not really working on it anymore.

    New Section!

Nice! As a beginning mod developer this section is very welcome indeed.

Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

Python is a nice language. However, it is considerably slower then Java. Both Python and Java run on a virtual machine but the big difference is that Python is a very dynamic language which means that it is a lot harder to do optimizations in. The Java Virtual Machine on the other hand has been...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Well I currently basically only play Minecraft and on my system Minecraft runs slightly better on Linux then on Windows. So I'm happy (at least for now) :-)

I really think that you are too pessimistic. Note, I'm not saying that what you're saying isn't possible. It sure is but I consider it a worst case scenario. I still believe (maybe naively or not) that this may turn out well in the end. In any case, whatever is going to happen, it is too early...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

While theoretically a port to C# would be something that MS might consider, I'm not certain how feasable this is given that the current dev team is still working on Minecraft and all of them are Java devs. Having all of them switching to C# is not an easy thing to do. Besides, this port would be...

C# and Java are actually a lot closer together then C# and C++. C# is also a language that runs on a virtual machine as opposed to C++ which runs on the bare bone hardware.

RFTools: new RF based utility mod for 1.7.10

BTW, in case you're interested in following this mod (and other future mod developments) I'm posting updates on my (shiny new) twitter account: https://twitter.com/McJty And yes, I'm still modding :-)

Minetest looks promising and it is a very active community it seems. That's always good for an Open Source project.

On what are you basing that claim? I have seen nothing stated that says modding is dead.

Well before the MS deal we didn't even have that. Remember that all mods we have now were created without any API. The modding community just reverse engineered Minecraft.

What's new in modded minecraft today?

Well I already told this in that other thread but I refuse to admit defeat to Microsoft and let them ruin my hobby. I propose to others to stand strong and also not let them take away what we have right now. Quitting is not an option IMHO.

I think it is stupid to leave now. I heard some people leave because they don't like MS. Well I don't like them either but I'm not going to admit defeat by leaving and in that way ruin my hobby.

I find this quote from the MS article promising: See the 'more powerful development tools'. To me that hints to modding. No?
