Mekanism is properly balanced, which means it's balanced to be used on it's own in a vanilla environment, and played alone so it's very good there. Unfortunately, unless you specifically adjust it's balance, it's very over powered compared to other options.
Yeah, I have my own custom pack. It was super easy to get auto mining. RF builder block, With the ender pearl from the tiny progressions ender ore.
Also I love the cables. They remove that stupid power loss from Ic2. And can transfer all kinds of power.
XU Netherstar Generator produces 4k/t for 2 minutes (9,600,000rf). The Woot Factory uses 358,400rf at 1120/t to spawn a Wither.
I discovered how to use MCedit to fix a crashing world by removing the offending blocks! In my case, a garden cloche with a foolishly planted Ender Lilly on Endstone. It was surprisingly intuitive and easy to use, meaning if I have issues like that again, I know what I can do.
I found out that Turtles can automate an Arcane Bore and supply it with Perditio, and can even let it point upwards (so that you can essentially let them set one up at y=12 and let it mine from bottom to top). I don't think I'm gonna try to use this in any way because of the probable problems with laggy fluids, but it's a cool thing nontheless.
E: I fiddled a bit with fluids by simulating what would happen if a 9 by 9 lake got to be under the mined place, and it doesn't look like the thing affects the game a lot. Maybe, this could work.

A thing! Possibly something a lot of people have been after, I haven't seen it tested to extremes (it's new) so I don't know if it will work as well as the ones from older mods, but:
The IE fluid outlet can place fluid source blocks around it, at at least some range! The video I saw tested a 5x5x3 empty pool and it looked like it filled the whole thing with lava.

I'm trying to fill a much, much much bigger pool, but this could be what I was looking for!
I don't know what it's range is, but it's worth a shot!

Just a simple Nether Fortress. What's cool about it? It's 800 blocks away from my nether portal. I almost died two times just to reach it. And almost got shot down by a Ghast from a bridge above lava, but luckily my glider upgrade (negates fall damage) on a dark steel chestplate saved me. I jumped 40 blocks from that bridge. The Nether Fortress was worth it though, it had two blaze spawners and a ton of wither skeletons.
I discovered the lack of creativity on Vanilla servers these days. Murder Mystery, murder mayhem. Murder whatever on Hive. And the housing on Hypixel is ugh. Little boxes with no details. This is why I play modded Minecraft. Always new possibilities.

What I do on servers is basically build battle. That's it. If I'm bored I play Skywars, but I don't actually try to win, I try to make traps and such and just turtle on my spawn island.
I don't know about coool thing, but I finally made myself an AA magnet thinking it wasn't that big of a deal, but just wait until you have earned flight and are building and breaking things in the air! Where has this thing been all my life??

The only downside I've found with it is the fact that in 1.10, it can't be turned off. That feature is present in 1.11 Actually Additions, but not the earlier one.
Actually, the AA magnet is only as old as AA, which hasn't been around very long

I have discovered the usefulness of C#'s FileSystemWatcher. The sheer utility of being able to watch a directory and see what files are added, changed, and/or deleted cannot be understated. It's made processing screenshots (in a... nonstandard format) much easier. Hooray for automation! IRL automation, no less.
