Every 3rd block on every 3rd row drop a slab on top.

Spiders aren't 3x3, but specifically are >2.0 blocks in length and width, so the won't be able to spawn in the 2x2 gap left.

Frankly, I had no issues with a single row spawner like Bevo started with in his S1 and S2 LP. no spiders ever spawned, but that's OK.

I have to ask...you did make your spawn areas 3 tall? :p
technically spiders are 2x2 but they spawn centered on a block so they take up 1.5 on each side

Oddly enough, Bevo introduced/induced me to give AgS a play? In my first 2 AgS worlds, I too did the single-row spawner but was never satisfied with the results. Bevo's video shows many, many spawns in that little area. Mine maxed out at maybe 4-10 mobs at a time. I even went so far as to close off the entire back side. Not a case of me being too close either, as when I moved farther back mobs started despawning. Guess you both just got lucky.

Are you using this design? The slabs on the left middle block all detected light, making it dark at all times of day. The wood slab positions leave the space 2 high for you to get in and kill anything inside. Nothing inside should aggro on you, and endermen won't teleport away.

It's not the fastest way, but it builds really quickly, and in early game starts getting you mob drops including endermen without any player risk or the mobs running away. This also works well to dump a bucket of witch water inside, to turn plain skellys into wither skellys to harvest skulls.

End-on profile, duplicate the pattern as deep (wide) as you want it, and obviously close the ends.

Maybe you guys can help me out. Starting Blood Magic while waiting on some Emeralds. Got my weak blood orb fully charged but it won't do anything? Network says 5K. Altar says 0 [even with the orb inside]. If I toss a smooth stone into the altar, nothing happens...until I start adding LP. Orb never gets used. And yes, I did right-click with the orb.

Also, if I put the orb into the altar, then pull it back out...it's no longer bound to me [my name no longer shows in the tooltip]? I'm confused and the wiki doesn't explain this at all.[DOUBLEPOST=1407479306][/DOUBLEPOST]
Ah ah ah. Yes, indeed. I used the key before I posted last but it didn't register until now [I use 1/2 slabs wherever possible so F7 no show much]. For the single-strip, the spawn floor was red X'd. I closed off the back wall to further reduce light pollution and even build an awning. Nothing had any effect.

Sorry smoke, but you've got it backwards. The orb is how you get power out of the altar and into the other portions of the mod. It's the core of the expanded network. Once power is in the network it can't go back into your altar.

The network is what powers blood magic potion crafting, armor, runes and spells.

The altar is the core of crafting.

the spawn room has ran for a bit no brains, and the swords have looting 3. Does the beginning biome have anything to do with mob spawn?

It started as an ocean biome and was transformed into an Enchanted Forrest biome via silverwood trees.

Have you had any 'brains' success yet?

The Weak Blood Orb stores a maximum of 5,000 LP, which is why your network won't increase. The altar is probably staying at 0 because you haven't fully filled the internal storage buffer of 1k LP. As @ICountFrom0 said, the altar is used for crafting, while the orb is used to store LP in your network. The network is used as a fuel source for items such as the Lava Crystal and Bound Tools.

The orb not showing a name is probably just a visual glitch. If it ever stops taking LP and the maximum for that tier hasn't been hit, then it has (for some reason) reset itself.

If you want a general guide for everything in Blood Magic except for the spells and alchemy, there's a written guide here. If you want a visual one, @Vaygrim did a series of tutorials, covering everything from T1 to the alchemy system. If you have any questions you want answered, feel free to ping me.

Very interesting. Actually, I have a High Oven and a significant amount of metals (about 20-30 blocks of the important ones) and generating medium amounts of power is not at all a problem. I have an easily-extended lava-based system running. I'm just stuck on Ender Pearls and redstone.

BTW, I have no experience in building more intricate mob spawners than large dark areas with a means to funnel the mobs to the killing grounds, and even the latter is optional with range upgrades on the Grinder. Is there anything more to this?

See my post below for a quick and easy mob spawner that is enderman compatible. Obviously the RNG needs to be in your favor, but keep cleaning it out and you'll eventually get an enderman.

Any spawning area should work, as long as there's no water and 3 tall.

I know this post is going to be vague but it's all i've got.
Playing Ag Skies 3.1.4 on a 2person server with a friend, and everything is fine normally. However, whenever i place a blood altar from blood magic down it crashes the server instantly. Nothing is displaying in the logs of use, and they place fine in SP. Would simply downgrading the pack fix this bug, or is it possible that its the server causing the problem?

Thanks! I was following your guide until I got confused. The mistake was in how I was thinking the orbs were used [conceptual error]. I was thinking about it in terms of a type of energy storage device, and couldn't understand why LP in the orb wasn't being transferred back to the altar. Now I know why [it's one-way].

Soon as I got over that, I was back on track. Got my altar up to tier 2 last night and was able to make the dagger of sacrifice, so I'm good for now [as in everything's working as intended].

Must be the server, though without any form of crash logs I would be unable to tell.

I just tried to modify my TiC pickaxe with a silky crystal. I made the crystal (ridiculously expensive with a block of emerald) and I have 3 modifiers free on my tool, but it didn't work. Has the recipe changed?

Edit:
OK, I found the problem. I had Luck on the pickaxe for some reason. Is there any way to remove a modifier? I've grown rather fond of that pick.

Currently no way to remove modifiers [that I know of - and this is why I disabled random modifiers per level]. There is something in the works but it hasn't been implemented yet [craft TiCo tool/weap with silky cloth].

Edit: Also...if you want to keep your pick AND be able to put the Silky Jewel on it, there's a config you can change to enable this. Don't remember which file it's in tho [TiCo maybe]?

speaking of silky, if your change pick head(haven't tried with other parts) after applying silky, then, according to pick stats, the speed penalty doesn't work.

Nope, Had it running for a long time on the server and no angry zombies. went over to some friends, worked on bees, nuthin. I don't think it's rare, I think it's broken.

I'm runnin version 3.1.1 of the pack, I'm talking to my server host for an update, I have some FTB access, I'll see later if I can't manually update it and see what happens.
