I think that they just grow quite slowly. I planted some in my world and they didn't grow for ages as well. I would try to use a lily pad of fertility or mfr fertilizer on them.

If you can get into the graphics card drivers (I don't know where they are on mac) then you can assign the java application to use them.

Does anybody know any ways to speed up internet for downloading java, ftb, etc? I just got a new PC but at the moment it is so slow and only has a wifi USB adaptor so the internet barely works. Is there any way to speed this up other than wifi PCI card etc? Thank you

Yes, to disable mods all you need to do is click edit modpack, choose the mod you want to get rid of and click disable. This adds an extension to the mod's file so it is not recognised by the launcher

Are you sure you haven't just corrupted the world due to over stress etc? That could be it. To remove chunk loaders try mc edit.
