Using the direwolf20 1.0.7 version

A little back ground info first. I used to play on a server called godcraft. They mainly had IC2, buildcraft, forestry, and RP2. I had a pretty good handle on my IC2 setup. My other friend who was playing also was the one who did all the BC stuff. But i basically had about 50 high voltage solar arrays. Out of them it ran straight into my mass fab. Prior to my mass fab i had glass fiber running to my 4 arrays of mfsus. Each array consisted of 21 mfsus. From there they ran and powered my different machine setups for my auto crafting farms. I know its overkill but at that point i had more resources then i knew what to do with. That was well over a year ago i believe when i was playing on that server last.

Anyways i was watching direwolfs channel and seen him setting up an Applied Energistics sorting system. So i watched a mod spot light on that i can was reading the wiki and got a basic setup now of the ME chest, controller, and crafting terminal. To power it i have 3 low voltage solar arrays going into a batbox. I have a compressor and extractor running off that for IC2 machines. Problem being the AP stuff drains the batbox pretty fast at night. I also have a pulverizer and redstone furnace running off 3 steam dynamos for my thermal expansion machine but thats going through alot of my coal.

There is just so much new stuff that im feeling very overwhelmed on what would be a good direction to go with for a power setup. I liked solar panels from IC2 when i played last due to it being fairly simple to setup and renewable. I have been thinking about a lava setup, but im not sure if it can be used for powering all the mods with machines? Having 1 thing to worry about getting a setup going for now would be nice. To all you people who have been playing with all these mods, is there a nice setup that i should look into or do you guys run multiple power setups for all the different mods?

A good source to start with is an mfr tree farm. The blocks are reasonably cheap and the size can be configured for your farm. They can be powered by any source (mj, eu, rf) and they produce wood which can be smelted into charcoal or sawmilled into wooden planks. These can then be used in a variety of machines eg - generator, steam dynamo, sterling engine etc to keep the farm running. you can then use excess power to keep an ae sorting system online to automate the processing.
