    Redstone Energy Cells (Mindcrack 8.3.2)

That's where it got funny - the magma crucible wasn't demanding 30MJ/t, though it should have. The crucible should run at whatever you throw at it up until 30MJ/t kind of like a quarry does. The REC was throwing 30MJ/t at it, yet it throttled down. Then the engines throttled down, even though...

    Redstone Energy Cells (Mindcrack 8.3.2)

That is true and could be part of the problem. Why wasn't the energy being taken directly from the REC, though? It was as if the REC wasn't even there. The engines and the crucible all seemed to throttle according to their own usage. Shouldn't the REC have been drained, and the crucible been at...

    Redstone Energy Cells (Mindcrack 8.3.2)

Okay.... but that doesn't answer any of my questions. The engines are putting out 32MJ/t. Even with 5% loss, that's 30.4MJ/t, not 28.5.

Question about Chestnut and Walnut Trees.

That's my biggest concern - the range of the bees. By default, most bees are about 3-4 blocks away on either side of an apiary (4 + apiary block plus 4 = 9 in the 9x6x9 range in beealyzer) Not sure how you get 6, though. 2 up and 2 down would be 5. 3 up and 3 down would be 7. It's got to be an...

Question about Chestnut and Walnut Trees.

I did some playing around today and managed to get myself a cherry tree! I feel accomplished. Haha. I see now what you're saying about the percentage rate, and I think you're right. I think pollination will determine the speed at which you get a mutated leaf block and the "mutation" percentage...

    Redstone Energy Cells (Mindcrack 8.3.2)

Hello all, I've been doing some testing with RECs and I'm very confused by some of the results I'm getting. I have 8 magmatic engines hooked up to a single redstone energy conduit output. That *should* be 32MJ/t. I had a REC placed after some machines to charge and take with me places, but I...

    Uses for Cans?

I've been using cans while working with bee-breeding. I don't want to spend the resources to build two different squeezers (one for seed oil, one for honey) and three different carpenters (one for seed oil, one for honey, one for creosote, for example) when I generally am just using one or the...

    Tree breeding

Also keep in mind that there is a block update bug in certain versions that will prevent you from seeing the mutated leaves. You have to leave the chunk and come back. Make sure you hit the leaves with a grafter to get a 100% sapling drop rate.

Question about Chestnut and Walnut Trees.

Right now I'm doing the apiarist pipe/autarchic gate method of automation. I can sit and afk for a bit, and it does seem to help. I'm judging cycles by how many drones I'm seeing show up in my chest next to the apiary because I know the fertility rate of the bees in them. Like I said, I just...

Question about Chestnut and Walnut Trees.

Your second link is broken (the right parenthesis is missing). I have a related question - when it says there is a 10% chance of mutation, it's 10% of what? Each cycle of bee? Or is it 10% chance it will turn into a silver lime vs a hybrid? Example: I have an apple oak and a birch tree...

    Upgrading to Magic Bees

Oh, when you said "we" I thought you meant the players and admins. I'm sure the server admins had to edit a config file. While perfectly doable, I've never had to touch any and that's a little disheartening. To me, the whole appeal of FTB is that it just works. I don't want to have to monkey...

    Upgrading to Magic Bees

Cool. Thanks for the input. I assume you had to manually edit the configs, though, correct? Every ID has been changed. While not radical, that definitely throws a monkey wrench into the works. It also adds more hives, which are generated during world gen. You would only get those in newly...

    Upgrading to Magic Bees

Hello all, just a quick question. Now that Thaumic Bees has turned into Magic Bees, what does that mean for the various packs that use TB? I play on a server running Mindcrack 8.3.2, which still has TB. I know that the author (MysteriousAges on MCF) posted a guide for migrating to the new mod...

Biofuel boiler still viable? (Mindcrack 8.3.2)

That's why I made the post - I was under the impression it was a self contained system. I realize now that it *can* be, but needs to be started off with a surplus of fuel first and THEN it can run itself. What about throwing combustion engines into the mix? Or is the 18 industrial steam engines...

Gotcha. Okay cool. Testing will commence! Haha, thanks again everyone.

Biofuel boiler still viable? (Mindcrack 8.3.2)

I just like all the cool liquids, especially in the big iron tanks :P I thought the fuel consumption was a direct 2:1 ratio. I thought that was proven in Omnicron's big boiler thread. Either way, more testing tonight. This time waiting for the tanks to fill before turning on the boiler

Biofuel boiler still viable? (Mindcrack 8.3.2)

That's what I was afraid of. So that answers my original question, then. My problem was that I was trying to power a boiler from cold startup on fermenters and stills and that just can't happen. Noted. Thank you guys for all the information. Now I know I just need to have a buffer of about 2/3...

Biofuel boiler still viable? (Mindcrack 8.3.2)

The heat up *time* may be the same, but we're talking about fuel consumption. Let me see if I can explain better. 230 buckets of fuel / 5 hours = 46 buckets/hour 690 buckets of biofuel / 5 hours = 138 buckets/hour That would be a linear progression. But it's NOT a linear progression as far...

Biofuel boiler still viable? (Mindcrack 8.3.2)

That makes total sense. It can maintain it at full heat, but I don't think it can handle from a cold start up. I think you're right - my best bet is to find a more efficient fuel to heat it, then switch to the biomass to maintain.A bucket of biofuel every 25 seconds means 144/hour. The boiler...

Biofuel boiler still viable? (Mindcrack 8.3.2)

Sorry, I edited my post. No I meant from a cold start up.
