Why don't people like IC2 anymore?

True, but with no warning of the change ... yeah. People will assume things act the same at first. Especially as IC2exp ain't really documented anywhere outside of scanning through forums and crossing your fingers. Also, the current EU system is in flux. It's incomplete. And it shows. I...

Why do people like Thermal Expansion so much?

That's why you'd need a on/off option in configs. But the reason it'd be nice to have it designed in by default, though, is that some mods items explicitly have always ignored protections. If the option to implement it was directly in Forge then that might get rid of those terribad loopholes...

Why do people like Thermal Expansion so much?

The sad and unfortunate truth. T.T Honestly I think the best and lightest-weight protections would be in the form of block level on just chests and machines as both King Lemming and SirSengir have implemented, as well as area-level for block interaction as the mod GriefPrevention uses. Chest...

    Can anybody help me?

I think the cost is reasonable. Yes, it can potentially more than quadruple ores. But. It takes a pretty dang high amount of power to be able to do so, and in a particular manner as well. It's not just plug and play like TE, IC2, and Mek. Think harder than Factorization, but without the...

    Can anybody help me?

It's a fun system. Easily the most 'technical' power system. If it simply could operate directly off of RF then it'd be worriedly powerful. The challenge of it comes from maintaining the power system well. It also has the only straight-up hydro power generation that isn't pitifully weak.

Why do people like Thermal Expansion so much?

And here you've noted the depth of the problem. How deep it would need to go and how much interaction. That's a lot of weight across *all* blocks and could become a pretty big weight on a server with all the extra checks that would need to go with it. That would fix the stealing portion, but...

    Can anybody help me?

It is fully compatible, yes, but not at the machine level. There are machines that flawlessly convert RF to Torque, and the reverse as well, but RotaryCraft machines only input or output Torque.

Why do people like Thermal Expansion so much?

Here's the thing about 'protected' but still automatized at the block level. How do you make sure that noone can add a chest to your automation system to siphon things out? You'd need each and every block that deals with inventory, down to the pipes, to have these settings. And then how do...

Why do people like Thermal Expansion so much?

That depth of block protection would be nigh-impossible unless you had protected land-claims. It's too easy to add inventories to an existant system in such a way that you could grief. I do, though, think that global block-level protections are a good idea, but just something as simple as...

I've not gone quite that far as I have RotaryCraft installed as well, but those two are flawlessly convertible through RotaryCraft's built in converters. I did manually disable the Railcraft steam engines, though, which is thankfully quite easy.

My own pack is currently hovering right around 110 mods. Occasional server lag, but only really during heavy terrain gen. But I also am trying for a particular vision with mine, which really helps narrow things down.

Well... it was bound to happen, Greg is nerfing base IC2

IC2 solars are decent. Add Compact Solars and you've got great power at minimal server load. That being said ... been there, done that, got the badge, and onto other power sources. If I need to do a lot of nerfing just to have a mod fit in my pack, then it's not worth my time. I like...

Only you can answer that question. Is it too big for you? If not, then no, not too big. If so, then yes, and you gotta look at what you want/need the least.

Well... it was bound to happen, Greg is nerfing base IC2

I was that gal, yes. Yeah. I stopped bothering for UUM after 1.4.7. Once you do it once, it seems to lose all meaning. As for Mek? My main 'tech' mods are TE, MFR, and RotaryCraft. Adding Mek is a lot more weight than I want just for something like solar. And if you go Mek, then might as...

Oh. And 'except pumps' as well. People often forget to list that one. It's honestly the only thing about BC that I'm currently missing. >.< As to what IC2 has? Umm ... UU-Matter and good solar power?

Well... it was bound to happen, Greg is nerfing base IC2

Nah. Didn't miss it. Just wondering if it was anything aside from that. I do wonder, though, the net effect on IC2 were GregTech to switch to RF instead of EU. I wonder if it would be like what's seemed to happen to BuildCraft and MJ since RF's arrival. It's neat, clean, efficient...

Instead it would rely on TE or UE. Is that an improvement? Wow. Greg liking something? I jest, but I am now imagining GregTech with RF support. That would be quite impressive indeed.

Most of the rest of those mods that Demo listed are ones I, myself, removed. Variety may be the spice of life, but sometimes too much makes for a lot of unneeded duplications. And unneeded server load. Hmm. Maybe add MineTweaker, but only if you actually need to 'tweak' some of the recipes...

I'd recommend to keep obsidian plates if you'd ever use them. Player-only pressure plates are a godsend, and the ability to hide them and make them unclicky can make for some impressive hidden doors.

And how would him switching to RF or UE be any different than his current use of EU? Scaffolds are nice for building without a jetpack as they can be deployed from the bottom, act as ladders on all sides, and the entire stack can be removed from the bottom. Once dirt gains that ability then...
