Forge added a workaround which gives us near-Tessellator possibilities not too long after their initial release. That's how AlexIL did it. :)
Witchhunts are terrible. Fire up Opis, or better yet VisualVM (but it's a bit hard to set up that one).
There's a great tool for this on 1.7.10, but you're still on 1.6.4. Hooray for missing out on 1.5 years of modding improvements.
(By the way, that GitHub idea of mine was around for a while, though I still didn't wrap up the original creators to actually license it: https://github.com/BuildCraft/BuildCraft-Documentation)
The problem with BC docs right now is that five wikis have their BC docs and none of them have a complete wiki.
Seriously. If you guys all want to document BC, let's just make a central GitHub repository with the original text, put it under the public domain and have all the wikis re-use the...
It is not the only place, but a team of three people have spent three months trying to document all of BC and they still haven't begun the robots...
On top of that, I am reluctant to write my own docs before BC 8.0...
EDIT: Here it is, but it is already outdated in some areas, such as Lists...
And there's also the long-standing bug of (d) not supporting composite blueprints.
The problem is that there's not enough developers to maintain everything and the kitchen sink, as well as that I am a bit of a minimalist myself: in fact, you can use a Delivery robot to send necessary items to a...
The Builder bot is absolutely useless and will likely be removed. We hoped to fix it, but it's just too much effort to maintain two builders where one of them is far less useful.
That error is a lie. We used the old version number, but the API is alright. Fixed in BC 7.1.10.
I remember I was debugging this same error for hours for Resonant Rise, but I don't remember what mod it caused. I believe faintly it was one of the magic mods, and it is definitely related to a mod...
You forgot to leave out BuildCraft. Though it is modular now (since 7.1 it even has a RailCraft-like individual-block/item .cfg config), so there might be something in there to enjoy after all.
And Factorization sounds like something up your alley, if you want a rarely-used, unique tech mod.
Technic has released a Tekkit Legends pack, though I'm not sure if the current version includes IC2 (Classic) yet, they're planning on including it very soon. It's quite close to what you want, I guess, though it does have Big Reactors.
