Although 1.8.9 already performs a lot better then 1.7.10. Especially with regards to rendering and chunk generation. It is a big difference. And mods like FastCraft or CoFHTweaks don't really help much to bring 1.7.10 to the level that 1.8.9 is already at.

Not really. It is just a simple hierarchy change. Nothing that would affect performance in any way. Besides that the api is pretty much identical
