For most ores, I industrially grind it and then smelt the dust in an electric furnace. For iron, I smelt it in an Industrial Blast Furnace with CaCO3 cells for Refined Iron. If I need regular iron, then I can always macerate it into dust and smelt it.

MFSU → MV-Transformer → LV-Transformer → Electric Furnace. The HV-Transformer isn't necessary, and you don't need the cables to connect them as long as you point the input and output sides right.

I don't know much about technical stuff, but using a lot of them in my world DID cause FPS issues for me. If you have a bad computer, I suggest you use them sparingly.

It's the 43:9 double slab block, which has the top texture on all 6 sides. You can get it through /give, no MCedit necessary. Vetches put them in his Inferno Mines map, and you can boop through them like butter.
