Does using a Sickle affect the amount of saplings form silverwood trees in any way?

I have a simple blaze grinder setup with melee turtles, how do I change what they are running/stop them without breaking them :s

How do I get one? I've cut down many Silverwood Trees but I cannot seem to find one, are they just that rare, or am I doing something wrong?

I just got he FTB launcher and im confused on what all the mod packs are, is there a difference between them? which one should I use? Like FTB lite FTb beta etc.
