The crystals can be hidden like any other ore. I have mined ores and a quartz hidden directly below it destroy the drops. Now people are telling us to mine the quartz we can't see first? Lava destroying the items is fine for a couple reasons. For one, lava is mostly found in large pools so you will usually know it's there and can just blame yourself for not taking note. Two, it doesn't destroy the item instantly, you can still pick them up for a short while so you don't get screwed by the random direction of drops fly too much. Quartz doesn't give you that chance. To those complaining about the quartz crystals destroying items: here's a thought--mine the crystals before you mine the items! It'll save the items, and the crystals actually have some uses!
I, personally, loved the crystals once the new functionality was added--any basic house of mine would soon have crystals lining the outer walls at head height, making a convenient anti-mob defense (i.e. if I see a creeper outside, I just have to lure it a couple blocks over and it'll kill itself on the spikes). I also liked the fact that the xychorium blocks don't spawn mobs--meaning I can build a floor out of them without having to worry about half-slabs or torch placement.
In fact, one of my long-term plans for my 1.4.7 DW20 world is to build an enormous high-speed rail system, with the ground under the track being xychorium and all tunnel entrances being lined with crystals to kill mobs that try to wander onto the track. ;-)
I use them early game, but they're too small unless I recreate the Seattle Space Needle with them.I wonder how many people remembered that Buildcraft tanks exist and are pretty cheap.
In what situation do you need a large liquid storage, apart from showing off?I use them early game, but they're too small unless I recreate the Seattle Space Needle with them.
You know, sometimes my combustion engines aren't sucking ethanol as fast as the stills produce, so I have to store it somewhere. Or the Biomass. Or the fruit juice. You got the point, right? Buffers, so your system doesn't clog.In what situation do you need a large liquid storage, apart from showing off?

Your ethanol production is fairly constant, right? So if you have an excess now, you'll always have an excess unless something goes wrong. You know, sometimes my combustion engines aren't sucking ethanol as fast as the stills produce, so I have to store it somewhere. That would be a reasonable use, except redstone energy cells are over 180 times as energy-dense.Producing steam via factorization.
Store the steam you get over the day for the night.
There is none. But what reason other than showing off, or being happy while looking around your base does it need? If someone wants to gather umpteenlolmillion of anything, they are free to do so. An easy solution would be to make the bc tanks form yamb (yet another multiblock) when placed down next to each other, but that's whishful thinking here.In what situation do you need a large liquid storage, apart from showing off?
