Hi everyone, has anyone seen the new recipes for GregTech in Ultimate 1.0.2?
What are your opinions on them? Needing an Assembler for Wind Mills and for Water Mills, plates now need a Bender etc.

My opinion is, if you like gregtech, they are good, because you are no longer required to have a MJ setup (rolling machine), to create IC2 items.
If you don't like gregtech the changes aren't likely to matter, because you aren't using gregtech.
If you're one of the poor folks who don't like gregtech, but play on a server that has it, you're a masochist.

On a personal note, I only take issue with the gregtech recipes for the MPS suit, because by the time you have the resources to make the suit, you probably have the resources to make all of the top tier modules as well. So much for upgrading as you go.

I also believe this thread is a flamewar waiting to happen :D

I don't think it's going to matter for me, so not voting, I'm going to be playing DW20's 1.5 stuff when it hits the download bar. And if he messes with my ultimate play experience too much, well - I own my server, I can fix it.

We'll see what happens.

If the changes aren't so bad that don't interfere with my fun, I'll leave them. If not, there's probably a config option for that. And if there isn't... well, we'll see.

Hi everyone, has anyone seen the new recipes for GregTech in Ultimate 1.0.2?
What are your opinions on them? Needing an Assembler for Wind Mills and for Water Mills, plates now need a Bender etc.

Have you actually played with them? And realized that the plate bending machine makes many recipes significantly cheaper and easier than they were before?

Try looking at mixed metal ingots (no more Railcraft rolling machine required, costs per ingot cut by over 60%), or dual/quad reactor fuel cells of all types (cost down to 1/8th of the original). Some plates can be used to manufacture replacements for machine blocks, so you can use some leftover junk metals for them instead of iron all the time. Plates can also be attached as covers to machines for aesthetic purposes, or used to build functional covers that can suck in liquids from neighbouring source blocks or control redstone behavior or accept MJ instead of EU for power or even transfer items between inventories. The wire mill, by the way, is optional and gives you around 50% more wire for your metal.

It's actually a trend in GregTech: if you use his machines, you can do many things more cheaply and efficiently, but it kind of requires people to look past the sometimes massive up-front cost of the machines and actually use them.

Also note that GregTech 2.9x in the Ultimate pack is a feature-incomplete preview beta. It contains about half the changes and features that go into GregTech 3.x for Minecraft 1.5, which is why some things you see might not make sense (and some of the things in my list above might in fact not be in your game).

Cause I would like some of changes of Gt, is Ultimate 1.0.2 stable enough to use on a server with the Ultimate 1.0.1 without any major problems or should we wait for 1.5 or whatever?

It broke just about a billion things on the server I play on. We had AE crafting things that now needed plate benders and the like.

Okay don't care about that, but other than "breaking" the recipes is there any major problems of using a existing world that is on 1.0.1? yep I know the reactors will be gone. So if there no other problems but that all we would have to do is use the new machines on the line as well changing the encoded recipes. Just wanna make sure it's not going to corrupt the map or something bad like that.

Okay cool! I'll talk to my players if they wanna change to that cause one of them in fact one is getting "burned out" so I was thinking of making that not so awesome reactor just to see how ineffective it's really is by couching in the numbers.

So turn them off.

DynamicConfig.cfg has an entire block called "harderrecipes". You sound like you should set them all to false.

He was just asking for an opinion, not complaining. Personally, I like the changes. it makes you get up a decent infrastructure before you can get into more advanced machines, and adds some more low-level machines to play with. Gregtech doesn't actually make most things more expensive (in fact, he makes almost everything cheaper, when you do the math), he just moves it further in the tech tree, so you don't get creative mode from UUM after you visit the nether.
