Actually, Obsidian itself might be a decent chest reward, seeing as it's a pain to mine manually and consumes lava to make it. That and a chance for Ender Pearls (Eye of Ender, Ender Lilly, etc.) would make me raid a complex or two at minimum. I would be happier to find an Ender Pearl than a Diamond, pre-end.

Edit:. I agree that spacing drops out amongst various structures would also promote exploring at least one of each, if only to see what they hold. If it's somewhat logical, it could help save time exploring the wrong places for the things you want.

Igneous Extruder. Feed it lava and water, it produces obsidian. No fuss, no muss.

Yes, but again it requires a constant lava feed, which is something that's annoying pre-nether, especially on older versions with smaller portable tanks. So early on when you find 5-6 Obsidian in a zombie dungeon, it's a big boon.

With the 5x5 AA drill, the magnetizer and a bucket of water, I can mine 25 Obsidian at a time about the same speed you'd break one with a unenchanted pickaxe. If you leave the water running, it'll automatically convert the next layer to Obsidian for you. Even if you don't leave the water block there, the magnet will collect the Obsidian before it gets burned.

Then, after you kill the ender grading, you get up on top of the Obsidian pillars, stand in the middle and drill down and pick up 25 blocks at a time while you eat a sandwich until you run out of space. The sandwich is optional.

For that matter I can simply cast a nether portal, and then have an unlimited amount of lava for an unlimited amount of obsidian.

The point isn't that you can simply do it x way, but to give some kind of interesting reward for exploring. I mean yes, there are more efficient ways to do the thing, but at the same time, if you're wandering around exploring, then Obsidian is a reasonably valuable reward for something to find in a random chest.

I just thought we were one upping each other on how we collect Obsidian. I was waiting to pull my quantum quarry card. :p

Edit: and I do like it as a treasure. No matter how you slice it, it's something you'd otherwise have to intentionally spend time on, not counting quarries.

The BC quarry was an awesome obsidian/cobble generator. Using floodgates and MFR Lava generators, you could produce a lot of obsidian in short order.

A Floodgate (or even an MFR Fountain) feeding lava next to a water source block makes Obsidian. Quite a few block breakers can mine it quickly and for quite low power.

I was more suggesting that it was time and effort devoted to the task, which if spent adventuring instead, could still net you a profit. Everything in (especially modded) Minecraft is renewable except time. So, if that time is spent adventuring and pillaging, what is a good reward for that time that doesn't completely ruin or jump early/mid game.

This is exactly how I was thinking as well. What matters is, obsidian is something you need to pick up on purpose. So, if you can pick up enough to get by while you're exploring anyway, it's an appropriate reward. The idea is both to make exploring worth its time as well as to give viable alternatives to some of the more mundane tasks.

Curseforge. Buildcraft. 1.12.2. *explodes from excitement*

Now all I want is Railcraft and I'll be perhaps too excited.

Did Iron Backpacks make the jump to 1.12 yet? It was one of the key mods not there yet when I started testing my pack, but seeing as I'm still in preliminary phases, I may move up if it's ready? Buildcraft pipes might actually be exactly what I'm looking for in the pack (which isn't something I think I've ever said before).

Yes, it did. It's still needing some of the upgrades implemented though. You can upgrade the packs themselves but the nesting and other upgrades are still WIP. I've got Adventurer's Bags in, which looks interesting. Basically a personal ender chest that doesn't overlap with either Vanilla or Ender Storage spaces. So if you die and lose it, you can just craft a new one and have the inventory back.

If iron backpacks 1.12 is anything like iron backpacks 1.11, it's got backpacks alright, but like nothing for the upgrades. Maybe the buttons. I'd give it some time.

That's how it looks on Direwolf's version, and when I tried it, it was the same, so I gave it a pass. Forestry bags work fine for me, so I'm not bothered.

Honestly? If all you want is extra storage, Thermal Expansion satchels are a damn good option. Upgrade to higher tiers, enchant it with extra storage... you're talking something like a Diamond Chest worth of storage capacity in a single one.

But if what you want is something to dump stuff in during mining expeditions, EnderStorage is your bag. Link your pouch to the enderchest set up as your AE2/RS import chest, and just keep dumping it in.

I have a distressing tendency to die horribly. I want a bag that will have an inventory that remains in existence when I have ceased to do so. It's been a while since I played a pack with Ender Storage in it, so I missed that for a long time. I dislike soulbound because it tends to disappear after one use on some items.

The other option is that I like to have lots of bags because you typically can't store one in another. So I'll have a TE Satchel full of Iron Backpacks, full of TE Satchel's full of more Iron Backpacks, each with lots of Forestry bags. I am an obsessive compulsive looter.

I think Direwolf said in one of his recent 1.12.2 LPs (circa Thanksgiving weekend) that Iron Backpacks' enhancements are being worked on and will be added to the pack when complete.

We have a memory leak! And I'm not sure what to do about it.

A memory leak is a cancer on this modpack. I'm not sure how to proceed here. Pulling mods and testing simply isn't practical. It takes hours before it crashes you, and that's hours of actual play time that I'm playing on a server. I can't just do it that way.

This appears to have only started recently. I thought the culprit was ExU2 because I had updated that one recently, but downgrading it didn't work.

Any ideas for some common causes to focus on?

My immediate thought is check the various githubs to see if anyone's reported any. If it's a particular mod, you're likely not the only one to see it.
