I'll have one of those spoiler-jobs too. Also, I like the design right above me, lava is always cool.

Using that abyssal stone from somewhere, and some thaumic tinker smokey quartz, but everything else is vanilla. Except for the bibliocraft lamps, nearly forgot about those.

Blah, 9x9s... 16x16s give you so much more. :p

Might as well toss in my go-to for SSP aesthetic base style. I like it because it's cheap, simple, and can be made very early-on without any industry required, which keeps me moving forward.

It's also a fun design to add pseudo-realistic architectural restrictions to, such as the oak plank slabs instead of cobble for the second floor.

The hotbar contains all the blocks I used.

I also decided to doodle up this simple IC2 design as well.

I feel these two videos go into further detail on building techniques. It's from a very old version of Minecraft, but it still applies.

Furniture design (interior):

I like it the mix mats are nice. I think that is Underground Biome stone that is the white stuff it goes well with the wood.

I like spruce and the stone but I'm not so sure on the stone slabs on the corners. Well it's great to get feedback and I do feel more inspired to try my hand at building

Also, has anyone else noticed that the stained clay colours are strange?

One looks brown and the other looks gray...

Well if it is stained shouldn't it look at least a little like the colour of it was stained with?

I guess you kind of have to think of it in its existing state before being dyed. A black dye on something brown would probably just darken it and a blue would probably end up being gray. I'm just guessing but I quite like havin these more muted colours in place of the vibrancy of the wool.

If anyone hasn't already heard of this before, the Minecraft subreddit has a collection of building guides, Here:http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/qmndk/the_gigantic_guide_for_building/ . There's a-lot of good stuff there about material choice and how they work together, that could help out with this challenge.

The VoxelBox guys have a nice explanation of 'grain' here: http://voxelwiki.com/minecraft/Elites_of_Minecraft:_The_Architect#Material_Grain

Both really good links. I'll add them to the OP for people.

Everything I say turns into an argument.

Ah Rainbow oaks.
So pretty as decoration, but so useless to farm for power, compared to Sakura and Ghostwood...

I made three builds

Firstly, I was inspired to do something with the Quartz by Saice's lovely build. I've never actually used quartz as a building material before, but I used all 3 types of Quartz and smokey quartz blocks in this. I used Thaumcrafts nitor for lighting.

Secondly, underground biomes. I felt I used a lot if different materials in the first build so wanted to see if I could make something nice using only a few materials. Flint for the floor, granite and andesite bricks/brick slabs for the walls/roof. With stone torches for lighting

And lastly; MFR. I used the stained glass from I think forestry, the white/blackstone from MFR and Thermal Expansions Illuminators (coloured black and white)for light. It's a very monochromatic build (Have you noticed I like monochrome?)
