I have been reading about various tech tiers in RoC on the forums, but im not fully understanding what ppl are talking about. Are you able to upgrade various machines, for example upgrade a performance engine to output more p/t/s while consuming the same amount of ethanol or something like that.

Not quite. The machines you can upgrade are the power converting machines, such as the magnetostatic engine. If you are unaware, it uses RF to create shaft power. It has 6 tiers (0 to 5). Ascending tiers allow for more power, and higher RF consumption. The same is true (I believe) for the BC, UE, and Railcraft, converters.

Note: This is only for converting power from the other mods into RoC shaft power.

I was looking last night for these and I guess its only in the newer versions? I dont recall what version Im running but its the one that comes in the current FTB Monster pack.

That would be v23. Wich does have tiered magnetostatics. And I might be wrong about the other power converters, it may just be the magnetostatic.
And you don't "craft" all the tiers of engine. You craft the upgrades and then right click them onto the magnetostatic.

Monster 1.1.2 uses v23 of Reika's mods. It has the tiered magnetostatics but afaik there's no converters for other power systems.

hmm what are they called? tried looking through the RoC book, sorta looked through the NEI table for RoC but there is quite a bit and probably missed some but searched the whole thing for tier/upgrade/enhance/typical names and didnt find anything for RoC. lemme check what version im on, maybe its just a bit too old.

*edit* looks like im on Monster 1.1.1 and v19 of RoC, that would explain it, yes?

If memory serves, that's before the tiered magnetostatics were implemented.

I don't think they show up in the book. But they do in NEI.
As zemerik stated, they're called: Converter Tier 1.
They're little square icons a few rows down if you filter NEI to just Rotarycraft.
Also, don't bother going back to v19.

Make sure you're ready though. There have been a number of major changes, such as most everything now requiring sizable amounts of lubricant.( including said magnetostatics )

Theres also been a lot of nice additions though.

Ya i actually have considerable lube production because i realize now I was reading guides on the newer version lol. I think I have ~300k buckets of it, and ~500k canola seeds hahah. I was actually surprised by how little I needed so this makes much more sense now.

Cool thanks for the responses!

I actually tried to stay away from the magnetostatic engines and only used them for my canola farm and sprinkler system, just for convenience. With all the surplus ethanol I now have, I started my automated jet fuel production. Some tonight ill be able to fire up my jet engine and start testing sustainability for a 24/7 operation. Only thing I wish for is an alternative to blaze powder and magma cream. To have a constant supply of those I need to be logged on by my murder house (mob spawners)... Does any1 have a suggestion on how to better attain blaze powder and magma cream without being logged on 24/7?

Automated Magical Crops.

Then there's always bees.

Valid point, I completely forgot about bees and magical crops!! Dammit now if the work day could end quicker that would be great, any RoC mod for that? ;-)

Well, GeoStrata has the Tile Entity Accelerator. Maybe you could convince your boss to convert the company over to a Tile Entity. I'm sure there's a tax reason for it.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help! So for those reading this thread in the future, here is my setup:

1. I have 2 sugar cane farms being run by the MineFactoryReloaded mod. Per farm I have 2 harvesters, running off RJ power (this was initially done with magmatic dynamos and lava from the nether) using tin upgrades.
2. I use bonemeal through the RotaryCraft fertilizer and the RoC sprinklers to increase rate of farming
3. I setup a sakura tree farm above my sugarcane farm with the MFR system, the only difference is 1 of the harvesters doesn't have an upgrade and is set to sheer leaves. The bone meal fertilizer while below the tree farm still fertilizers the saplings.
4. This might not be the most efficient way to make yeast and sludge but I always like the "go big or go home" principle. So I have 15 performance engines running 10 sugar->yeast and 5 yeast->sludge manufacturing.
5. This in turn is run through a electric furnace (5 furnaces with 1 transformer upgrade and 7 overclockers). This setup produces more ethanol than I know what to do with.

Jet fuel

1. I have 16 performance engines running 5 grinders, 1 grinder for canola->lube and 2x netherrack->dust and 2x SoulSand->tar and 1 fractional unit
2. I have a monster spawner and grinder that helps generate blaze (use a cyclic assembler to convert blaze powder+slime->magma cream). Only crap thing about this is u need to next to it for the mobs to spawn. I am in the process of setting up magic crops and bees.
3. I used this method to stock pile jet fuel. After about a day of stock piling jet fuel I installed 1 gas turbine and now I run 3 extractors and 2 frac units off it.
4. I use an overclocked macerator to make blaze->blaze powder

Use things like QuarryPlus to get enough soul sand, netherrack and dirt.

Maybe not the best way to go about it but currently I have a surplus of jet fuel and ethanol and im goin to test adding more extractors to my gas turbine and potentially add more gas turbines to the mix the moment I have a steady supply from my magical crops.

Hope this helps someone!
