I haven't really kept up but I just wanted to clarify my point.

I have no issues with dropping redpower 2. I love the mod but don't feel it should get special attention just because. On the other hand I do believe that all mod developers should be given room and respected. If they can't keep up with the packs they want to be a part of though (although I've never heard eloraams personal opinion on FTB) then there's no reason to wait for 1.

I have issues with people expecting modders (or anyone) to provide things for them for free. It's rude. I don't have issues with non-targeted rants, suggestions however annoying some may be, and especially not questions provided someone has tried to find the answer themselves first.

[...]but IMO (for those who dont understand that it means "IN MY OPINION") she has a little moral resposability with the fanbase she has created, why not post a twitt "im alive" or something relevant to the mod? is it so hard?
/manu
Most probably not hard at all .. but, y'know, that "fanbase" you spoke about is really more an angry mob (see my post above: Torches and Forks) when it comes to Eloraam. I mean, yes, they praise her to heavens as long as it's about RP2's features.. but as soon as someone mentions her.. update policy, ragemode is activated. And man, really, some of the stuff people threw at her in the last months of '12.. it would not surprise me one bit, if she stays silent on purpose. Also, imho, it's the only polite way to deal with such a "fanbase" consisting of lowly existences like some of those forum posters that I read about RP2. And no, this is not targetting anyone in this board. There's other boards and the users over there are not as.. calm. Yes. Anything written about RP2 in here can be considered thoughtful and well written compared with some of the cr*p that was written about her mod, herself, her family, you-name-it elsewhere. And that's where the cat bites its tail.. mindless rage disguised as "opinion stating" and vice versa.

No real solution to all of this - I guess both ends have their opinions carved into stone by now - the only thing that could weaken up the whole thing would be a RP3 release with "wtfmindblow" features. Bugfree, of course. As that's not going to happen any time soon... *shrugs* it's a history repeating.

Sorry but just because there are some assholes out there doesn't make her entire fanbase a group of raging lunatics.

Of course not. But the vocal majority sadly is obviously lacking manners. Does this make you, or me, or just about anyone on the forum here, a mindless raging mobparticipent? Again no - but I have my doubts Elo really cared for the understanding minority after dozens of several pages long threads insulting her, uncounted tweets filled with anger and profanities, no-idea-how-many emails with threats of all colors... y'know, none of that was done by people like you or me - but at that time, we were kinda the drops in a rage-brimming ocean.

Something came to my mind as I been reading. What if Elo is, logically, waiting for 1.5? With all the changes to redstone comeing in 1.5 it would be a major change to anything that uses redstone as a base. Now I may be wrong but if you think about it.

Vocal minority you mean. And if you are bothered by a few assholes out on the webz then you probably should not be 'here'.

Still would be nice to know if that's the case instead of nothing for the last couple of months.

Gee I'm sorry, the vast majority the engineers, no matter the field, I have the pleasure of knowing enjoy beer. I have no idea at all what the brogrammer culture is, I'm merely speaking from my personal and professional experience with engineers of both the male and female persuasion.

If you had to ask, "What are the 3 biggest social problems in the culture of western software engieers today?" The first would be unrelenting misogyny, the second would be barely functional alcoholism, and the third would be nearly crippling personal insecurity.

If you aren't aware, that's cool. I'm pointing it out. It's a really, really big problem. For the sake of people trying to make social progress in that field, please choose your words with some awareness of these problems in the future.

Taking things too seriously is a sure way to enjoy your life a lot less. Remember, the Dude abides, man.

Some abide. Some try to make the world a better place via their actions and words.

Well said, although I should probably point out that the assertion that I had mentioned beer on stream is absolutely true. I'm an electrical engineer, and I homebrew, so it's a fair statement when applied to me specifically. And just incase anyone is wondering, I'm not misogynist at all (really I love women...winkwinknudgenudge) and I'm no alcoholic, despite any on-stream jokes. As far as that last part, nothing could be further from the truth. I am the very paragon of what people should strive to be in terms of intellect, charisma, physical stature, and most of all, modesty - I am just absurdly modest when it comes to my mountains of accomplishments.

I also have been known to utilize sarcasm on occasion.

EDIT: Seriously though, good post. There are a lot of problems with the engineering culture right now, and while I personally feel that most of them are based on externalities, you did state some of the effects quite well.

No, i meant the majority of those among her fanbase that are vocal, e.g. those using messageboard, twitter and social networks. The minority was calm and thoughtful. And point your suggestion to Elo. I don't mind the weird people online - but I know some people who do - and maybe she' one of those. Yet, showing someone the door for not wanting to deal with personal attacks of any kind... duh... yeah, the only place on earth where this crap works, is the internet.

I only objected to the generalization. I'm not so bribable by beer, but you could buy me with good coffee. :) It's a sensitive issue for me as in this particular startup I'm doing a lot of work on hiring tech and... man... it's brutal. I think the Kixeye thing was a good example of what can happen easily happen if you're tin-eared about the subject.

Yeah well I'd say that misogyny is a problem in every STEM field, so thumbs up to the assessment of "externalities." It's just a thing we all have to work on.

While we have ForgeCraft players here: Two questions if I may, since you have contact to Elo there:
1) Has she said something, if there will be an update before 1.5, or if she wants to wait?
2) Are bug reports on this forum concerning RP2 reaching her?

King, if you come visit, I'll be happy to make you a sammich. Offer open to King only.

Also, just because we are on ForgeCraft doesn't promise that we have any more contact with Elo than anyone else. I have no data for you.

But... but... but... you have a moral responsibility to share, so go find said information! [/sarcasm]

It does make sense, but I think I read somewhere that few of the mods in FTB use vanilla redstone mechanics. Though, that doesn't mean 1.5 can't bork other things. Mojang's done it before, and eventually, they'll do it again.

Bear in mind that RP2 is a large and incredibly complex mod and while its redstone component is its own world, even minor changes in Vanilla can cause a domino effect of bugs in some mods. And 1.5 is supposed to bring other changes as well.

Personally, if I had to chose, I'd rather wait for 1.5 for a comprehensive update that'll keep the packs going, all of the issues most people can deal with by just planning around them.
