Losing such a mod will never ever be a win. One of the main reasons for me moving to FTB was RP2.
Nothing is being lost. Waiting for 1.6 is a smart move. Who knows what Mojang is going to start putting in especially so quickly after 1.5. The best news was hearing she is okay but busy like most figured.
I'm content with the fact that she is alive/well.
It just speaks to me how little she really cares about anyone who likes her stuff. She can go months without even caring to update her twitter.

To be blunt why should she care if anyone likes her stuff? To care about someone's wellfare is to be human. Beyond that meh. If I made a mod I wouldn't give to shakes of a creeper's tail, (rule 34 creepers if you dare), what anyone thought of it if I felt is was awesome. One doesn't need to validate themselves on what others think.
I remember someone mentioning before that RP2 has bugs, have you tried Red Power Tweaks?
I'm also fine with the result, forking the packs was suggested many times here, and if the FTB team has time to do it, then great. I can stick with Ultimate as is, wait for RP2 to update, then bring my world into whatever version that is. As I said before, my two big issues are loss of frames and world compatibility, otherwise I'd probably not care about losing RP2 given the replacements (especially if thermal expansion adds a tube system).

After reading everyone's posts... I'm surprised there is a modding community.
Peeps forget these mods are free to work on and use. Nobody pays them, and nobody is holding a belt over their necks to finish the mods. Redpower 2 WILL get updated eventually. Patience is a virtue... Just play the game and have fun until then. When/If there's a modpack updated to 1.5, play that one until redpower IS updated (Meaning DON'T delete your world, but save it and make another. But a lot of people are making it seem like this is IMPOSSIBLE...) . It's not that big of a deal. It's a game... And the modders have lives beyond the computer. Let the woman live her life, and when she can get to the redpower mod, she will work on it. That's good there's going to be alternate ways to use different red alloy, the power crystals thing, etc... And I'm all gun-ho for that stuff, but RP2 is still a wanted mod for a lot of people...

From what I understand she is a freelance electrical engineer of sorts. I hear she has dome some programming work and I could see this being a part of her current work too.

Just throwing it out there, but I have a mod designed for my server which adds anything I want for my server. I'm adding marble/basalt to it, so if anyone wants it let me know.
Marble/basalt will have all the same IDs as in redpower, so theoretically you just remove RP, place this in and reboot and all your marble/basalt will remain untouched. I'm remaking the textures (but in the same style) and obviously it's my own original code, so not a copyright issue

would be really great... especially if marble and basalt even work with gregtech. with gregtech, those two blocks aren't just designblocks but real ressources. both are sources of calcite dust which is very important for processing iron ore. marble gives magnesium dust too, basalt gives (besides calcite) flint dust, dark ash and olivine dust (which can be processed to iron and aluminium and so...

Just a suggestion (not actually gonna do it as i have neither the coding capacity nor the time)
But would it be possible to update redpower manually (I mean I have basic coding knowledge and can easily figure out how to update redpower manually) and then release it on dropbox (or some other download solution that does not profit the updater)
Because I have seen that many people, although they may say that they dont use it and that they would rather see it scrapped, its a great mod and shouldn't be nuked
this may not be as easy as I'm doubtful that elo actually released a source code for redpower 2 to work off from and she did mention on the forum thread that she would evaluate other needs for redpower on the page of full terms and conditions and she did mention that we would need permission from her first (not saying that I wouldn't just go blundering in and try)
I, like many other people, do still believe in her but since she doesn't update that regularly I think that there should be a back up to update the mods but not add any content in so taht people dont go down the same route that people have on this thread

N.B. I was thinking about this for a while whether it was possible but then a viewer of my youtube videos suggest that I should do this to redpower, xycraft and xeno's mod alike now this isn't the place for the latter 2 but redpower I find is almost vital to surviving in minecraft
