Why does this not surprise me at all?

Note that this bad version checking code is likely not in MS products directly but in the myriad of non-MS programs from back in the day. Microsoft, despite the crap people give them, has pretty insane backwards compatibility . This is probably just them making sure others' code won't mess things up.

So, heads up:
http://minecraft.curseforge.com/mc-mods/230020-cofhtweaks

It contains some miscellaneous tweaks and optimizations, including a back-port of the 1.8 render optimizations. Some testers have reported a 10x framerate increase (YMMV). So yeah, now there is literally 0 argument for going to 1.8.

No, it doesn't work with Fastcraft. They perform some similar optimizations and won't work together as a result. Or if they can, it's entirely on Fastcraft's end to integrate. The difference is that these are visible source and entirely above board, whereas the community at large still has no actual idea what Fastcraft is doing.

Even so, it is a BETA. Bear that in mind please.

I will start testing this on my systems tonight. I believe with as low end as my systems are, I have a perfect environment to test it! Again you give us something wonderful!

Just so we're clear - skyboy gets the credit/blame on this one. I glanced over it to derp-check but that is it. The code is completely his.
You are just saying that because you know it has world corruption bugs and don't want the hate </sarcasm>

I forsee many cookies in his future. Just reading the description for it makes me drool. I'll keep you guys updated on how good/bad it is. As said, lowwwwww end systems. It can only help!

I think I have a system where any kind of mod install will provide in worse performance.
Its a laptop with an intel dual core processor integrated GPU and 750 MB DDR2 ram.
If this mod somehow still makes for better fps then I just need to remove one of the RAM sticks and see it suffer when it tries to load the mod, or the OS for that matter.

You just made everything I own look like top of the line equipment. My server is about the worse I have which is, if I'm not mistaken, just a Pentium 4 and 2gb of ram. But, its also running basically nothing on it. Sounds like a jet taking off when I start mcserver on it.

Yeah, skyboy plays/devs on a toaster. I think he may actually be on a Pentium 1. It's definitely aimed at helping low end systems.

With that being the case, I can only benefit from trying it. Heck, it might end up needing a name change to 'ToasterTweaks' :p

I believe that the CPU only barely hits the 1 MHZ if it actually does that and 2 GB is more then 750 MB.

Yeaaaaaa I definitely feel better about my stuff Knowing there's others in worse situations :( Yours being a laptop, you're very limited as to doing anything to make it better. Don't know how old you are or where you're located, but you can find some pretty cheap stuff on Craigslist. Even small computer shops advertise on it where I am AND cheap as anything. The system I use to actually play with I got for free off there. Business close out, was their file server. Decent enough for being free. Just had to pop in an old gpu as it's integrated graphics was shot. Heck, check out yard sales too. Always someone getting rid of an old computer. I find it easier to just take something cheap and throw 30$ into it to upgrade it. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll stumble upon a "diamond in the rough"

I didn't expect that response, don't worry about me it should be the other way around probably as it is an old laptop that I don't even know why I still have it except for catching dust.

Lol what sort of response was expected? I honestly had no clue that systems older than mine even still existed. I have an antique laptop from the late 80's(I think) still in my closet. The way I look at it.....if it works and gets the job done, keep it. Never throw away good stuff! Heck, if I had anything worth it I'd even trade for that laptop you have. Slap in Win95 and go back to the good ol days! Will you accept an iron ingot?

Btw, "worse situation" to me means un-upgradeable :)

you don't need win95 it runs debian wheezy without to much of a problem you just need to avoid chrome at all cost
