Well, the COPIES THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED which come up so frequently in discussion are the result of an incredibly popular mod's developer dropping off the face of the planet.Agreed. I think the disjoint comes when people think something is a carbon copy without asking why the person would proceed to make such a thing. If it was a carbon copy, nobody would make it (except perhaps for the learning experience of doing a thing).
Many people loved that mod and wanted what it had to offer, and that developer never shared their code or development efforts and then simply withdrew without a word.
Some of the current copies are carbon copies, yes; this is because people wanted that mod back and updated but wished to respect the legality issues.
