So this morning I had a conversation with my "friend" at school...

Him: Hey, did you check out my modpack? I sent you the link yesterday night, it's on Sendspace
Me: I was probably asleep... So what mods are in the pack?
Him: *lists a bunch of mods* Optifine-
Me: Optifine? You know no one is allowed to redistribute it?
Him: Who cares? People can download it for free, so I'm not doing anything wrong.

you can't do moral superiority over the internet if you didn't even try to lecture him.

But seriously there are actually ways to have a conversation about mods where knowledge is transferred from person to person. You can exen make the topic about how Optifine can make things worse for some people, so it shouldn't be in packs.

Just need to get this off my shoulders, hardcore delusional feminist anger stuff:

Every time someone complains that a game is sexist towards women because the game is made with men in mind and gives all the women fantasy-style proportions and shat and should be removed from sale altogether, I just think one thing some dude posted online:
And yet there's nobody saying that Call of Duty objectifies men as being angry, blood thirsty, gun toting maniacs that enjoy nothing more than starting wars and blowing stuff up.

I mean seriously, are they sexist? Well, IMO just making girls sexy and provocative does not indicate their worse or better than men, but I guess that all depends on your definition of sexist.

But the real question is should they be removed, and to that I just point towards the "tasteless Flanderization" if men. If that's allowed then it's lesser and slightly less tasteful cousins should too.

I'm personally just so annoyed by how sexist the opponents of "sexism" are.

Just take a look at some of the proportions of men in video games. Even the ones not specifically targeted at women have men who have great proportions (V-Back being one of them). I believe that all sexism should be removed. Almost all games that do not directly use the sex of their character in some way must have a gender option. The gender of random characters should be randomly generated. And proportions should be fixed.

Really it is a cultural problem. People have forced sexuality into a binary thing. You are a boy and you act like a boy. Or you are a girl and you act like a girl. Truly, sexuality is much much more complicated than that, but the stereotypes are enforced by the society that is supported by the corporations that benefit from this stereotyping. I believe in equalism, nothing more nothing less. Also, the proportions deal isn't as big of an issue as people think. It is natural for men and women alike to trend toward the proportions that they find appealing; thus it is not wrong to make men or women more sexy. It would be more wrong to suppress that desire that both genders feel. I'm not saying that forcing that image as the ideal women or man is a good thing. It is most certainly not, but we shouldn't go the other way either by suppressing those desires. I believe that the stereotypes that result from sexism is what is ultimately the bad thing. Not upping the boob size so men will notice it more. If you want to see some good opinions on the subject of sexual stereotypes in games

Agreed, while there are real things that need to be addressed half the time when I see this kind of thing I just think "But this thing is ok because...?", granted that is how I see alot of things *cough* both sides on gamergate (may this be my last time saying that name) *cough*

More things about thongssexuality in games!

Basically the fantasy characters have their place, but they create a stereotype that alienates both genders from each other in terms of gaming. Dan you are the man

And where it goes way to far ofc

I mean having fantasy characters is all right. But when you market and design them as sex objects. That is just plain wrong

I strongly object to the notion of randomizing gender in a lot of the games I play. Your biological sex and the social construct of gender ARE DIFFERENT, both from each other and from the "other side" in their own category. This informs many traits in people. I see things like the pronoun swap Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, all it did is replace "he" with "she" and "his" with "her". Completely ignoring any effect that would have on the inherent and subtle narrative. Shit like that pisses me off to no end. Gender doesn't have to be an important decision in a lot of places, but it also isn't a meaningless label. Sometimes choices are made deliberately, and as a writer? Seeing people do those thoughtless Find-And-Replace operations like gender is a shirt color? It makes me cry.

The point should never be to tear down one gender, or to minimize gender at all. The point of feminism should be to elevate women without tearing down men. The point of equality isn't to shape everyone down into the grey formless cogs in the machine, it should be to remove the artificial barriers imposed because we're really a hell of a lot more similar than society assumes. But not all the barriers and differences are artificial.

That reminded me of these posts by... well you know what it's explained in the first paragraph or two of the first link so I'll let you read if you're interested.

Also watch the extra Credits video, the crew does great work.

You know what everything I can think to say about recent topics in this thread either has already been said, or is argument bait. I was going to try and appease the potato... but I can't think of anything.

Edit: Son of a... I've got the Gerudo Valley Theme stuck in my head now. I now recall why I don't watch Extra Credits' credits.

Where gender is important to the character. Please do not randomize it. However, for let's say CoD (I know I hate it to) have the pawn enemies in the storyline gameplay be randomized gender. They must have no dialogue. Or else it will be clear they were designed as a certain gender and it was randomized

This is very true. Minimizing gender is bad, but making it the most important thing is bad also. Equalism, but not no-genderism (weird phrase I know :p)

Related to the topic post but unrelated to current conversation (no I'm not trying to change the subject, just remembered this), Turkey may be banning Minecraft for...wait for it... violence against animals, women(somehow, don't ask me), and are worried that the children will confuse a world made of a maximum of 32 bit textures (item frames) for the real world and act on these "violent acts". Given my knowledge of government officials anywhere, I would be more curious as to how they would ban this game, not why. I mean, what do you do, ban Minecraft.net, request Mojang/Microsoft black list their servers from Turkish IPs, fight off a hoard of children trying to beat them to death over this?

I can only odd

Also, violence against animals? *laughs* humans do less "humane" things to them all the time. We are terrible. Also, the women part, what...just what? Then confusing it with the real world *@Qazplm601s*
