How did you get the souls for the zombies? I have lots of trouble with pigmen, from standing on a 4 block high structure, I tend to get hit by one and fall off. If surrounded by walls, I keep getting hit.

Then they steal my sword, and when they have an enchanted sword while I have the stone sword I find in the first chest I see at home, I get problems.

I had a soul stealing IV vile sword which basicly made every kill worth 5. Then I went to the neither and used a few arcane levators to make a mob trap field. Then pissed a bunch off. Ran into my little pigman proof box and as they ran into the field they would get pushed up and stuck. Then I just killed them for hours. I think it took me about 2 hours to be honest. And I had to stop and make a new sword at some point. It was mind numbingly boring.

If you want I can rebuild one and get some screen shots for you. The shitck is that you can use the levator to push a mob up and they don't know what to do. Other mods can push them so you just need a 1 block lip on the ceiling to keep them stuck in one place. You just have to make sure there is a turn that have to make as they enter your traping field to kill any momentum they have. Pigman have really bad AI so I suggest building this into the side of a cliff otherwise when you think they are all done you find a few hanging outside trying to walk into the wall to get to you.[DOUBLEPOST=1361573696][/DOUBLEPOST]
Why not put covers on the top of the ship? I must have missed the reason covers were taken out back.

They were causing my game to out of memory every 10 to 20 minutes and causing a lot of rendering errors (large 10x10x10 area would vanish). I still get out of memory errors just not as much about once an hour now.

So yeah can't do that. Seems once you get to a few hundred covers things start having issues. at lest for me.

An easy way, until the next update, is to harvest the zombie pigmen spawners found under the thaumcraft altars. They spawn fairly frequently in flat areas, and are even easier to harvest if you have MystCraft.

Otherwise, build a bunker so the zombie pigmen cannot reach you, but you can reach them. A hole in the wall which is blocked off so they cannot walk through, for example.

Yeah I got mine before the thaumcraft update added altars. But yeah I did a variant of the bunker thing. using levators to trap them as they came at me.

Ah, that's bothersome. Mm, what about some of the other no-spawn blocks (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Opaque), maybe glowstone? Call it shielding to deal with high energy particles when you go into warp speed, maybe?

Na what I plan on doing is making warthlamps which will light up a 15x15 ish area. use a cover on those to hide them (since covers let light trough). This will make the ship look nice day or night and will be using only a few covers.

Yeah if you could that would be nice, but no rush or anything. I haven't gotten into thaumcraft, and I don't love the idea of it because I feel like I'm throwing away items.

I took a stack of gold ingots to try to make basic transmutation, because it had all the aspects (I think) necessary. It was at 80% and never finished, even after throwing more ingots in there.

And every time I find a half-decent area, there's a thaumcraft obsidian totem (with pigmen included) or a wisp barrow. And every once in a while:

A node nearby spews forward something foul.

And I end up falling to the mercy of a giant Angry Zombie...
Did I mention how annoying the normal ones are?

Na... get yourself some armor and a decent bow and learn to fight on the move. This will make most combat in MC much easier on you. basically get enough armor to take a creeper blast to the face and live and learn to either stick and move fighting and/or mobile ranged fighting and its all fairly easy. Even the big guys can be taken down if you learn some basic ranged fighting skills. Heck even Wither vs Long range mode Mining laser ends up being a fairly easy game of dodge and pwn.

Pfft, full iron + blocking with a wooden sword is enough to take one right in the face and survive with one heart left :D.

My strategies for the different mobs:

Zombie/Angry Zombie: Keep hitting them...simple for Zombie, not so much for the fast one
Skeleton: Strafe and hit in-between shots
Spider: Get onto high area and knock them off
Creeper: Hit and run away/allow explosions to kill the others
Wisp: Run
Ghast: Jetpack up to them (Computer so laggy I can't hit back)
Blaze: Hazmat suit+acquire Soul Shard: Never enter a fortress (or see a blaze) again!
Enderman: Athane/Don't look
Wither: Don't.
Wither Skeleton: 2 block high structure+acquire Soul Shard

Raining death from a Jetpack while wielding a Potency III/Charging I Wand of Lightning is the only combat strategy I've ever needed: Great range, pinpoint accuracy, knockback, infinite ammo and solid damage.

Sort of my point. Did not say what armor to get. Just get enough so that if a creeper sneaks up on you and blows up you dont die. Beyond that they rest of the mobs you can just fight on the move and rarely need armor for. The armor really is mostly for the ninja creepers blowing up when you don't see them.

I really should carry a bow around. I never seem to, cause I tend to clog myself on inventory space, even with enderpouches and an auto sorting system that'll send everything home.

How's the bag of holding? I can be super lazy and set up an automatic crafting system...pulls them in, pulls out the bag, puts it in to be crafted again with the materials.
What storage should I have? I tend to have a canvas bag, and occasionally an enderpouch. When I get bees I may do Forestry, but that's specialized (read: meh). If the bag of holding is easier than canvas bags, even if they hold the same inventory space, I may just get one...though an enderchest+manager will keep me stocked and allow me to keep less items in my inventory, as I tend to overpack :p

On a side note I did finaly clear up the last of my memory issues.... but I had to do it by removing Optifine. I'll fiddle with Opti a bit more later and see if I can find out what option is causing the last of my out of memory issues.

im interested in seeing what you come up with. I updated FTB and forgot to put optifine in and discoved I can get 85 FPS without it

I supect it has to do with either the render distance slider or something to do with one of the rendering options. But I need to test it to be sure and right now I would rather get my build a bit more done

It's true!
They're shiny purple balls of wonder that can fly around and shoot lightning at me!
And when you're 128 blocks away, mobs despawn ;)
An Infinity bow should give you enough dakka to handle any wisp. If it's got a Power and/or Flame enchantment, so much the better.
