I'm averaging 'only' 188 to AdvancingCraft which may explain why I'm finding it playable. (The main problem there is memory running out.)
Possibly, yes! It's the replacement that'll be the hard part. After all, the cable does go underwater...
Maybe we'll have to wait for 1.6 and and use the new enchant which combined with night vision makes underwater just as visible as normal. And of course all the MPS extras for moving and breathing underwater.
This thing saved me. 190k wood over 1 night. I'm impressed. And a bit scared.
Thing is, I built my treefarm on the server, as I built it in my SSP, with a single usage barrel and a single overflow barrel - and since SSP means, those machines never ran, whenever I quit the game, that was enough. It simply never crossed my mind that this little thing would chop trees all night while Im off. Yeah, obvious.

Well. Read it like this: I took 1 Stack (64 oak wood) out of my "managed barrel to boiler and cart" barrel (64x64 oak wood inside). Nigh instant refill from the manager at the item unloader. Now multiply this by.. *calculates a bit* .. 2957.5 and you have the wood this single manager (at the item unloader) kept "in stock" until he had a valid inventory. Which equalled to 18.8837 oak wood over a single night of "not logged in". After having filled somewhat around 75 barrels with 64x64 (wich is about another 4.5k to 5k), I was hinted towards the Deep Storage unit, which (see above) as I logged of, came to (for now) an end at around 18.8k oak wood.
