I actually coded a block like this back in 1.4.5 (it seemed really easy to try, so why not?), it gave off negative light, but normal light is so much more powerful than negative light so the effect was diminished a lot.
Could we see? :D
and would it have been possible to strengthen negative light?

I first learned of that mod about 2 days ago when slowpoke tweeted about it, soooo much want! Those coloured blocks! And the bud switch! And the things and the yokey do and the thingemybob! Arrghhh want!
KingLemming liked it too, and it's made not to lag, which is great!
I want to see some of this guy's bad ideas, too :p, just because.

Wow. That certainly looks cool.

I have to admit that I'm more excited about the chandelier than anything else. I traditionally use pretty low ceilings for most of my stuff, so I'd prefer to have a block that looked nice and could be slapped on the ceiling in a fancy way. Admittedly, that does sound kind of retarded compared to some of the other neat stuff he has.

I don't know if it would have been possible to strengthen it, but here are some pictures.

Light void blocks? Actually...I like that concept. I could see it being handy for adventure maps, to finely control light levels and such. I've had a mod idea of my own floating 'round in my head for a while now...I'll just do a quick copy/paste and spoiler tag, because length.

I'm thinking of creating my own mod for Minecraft, while following Pahimar's most excellent Let's Mod series. Having played with a few of the FTB packs (Mindcrack, Beta, Direwolf20, and Ultimate), I've noticed that steam doesn't get a lot of love. Yeah, Railcraft has boilers and steam, but using them for anything is painfully inefficient, not to mention a fair bit inelegant with all but the snazziest of setups.

So, my solution? A steampunk-themed mod inspired by Thief! I wanna use something kinda resembling how real-life steam works, you have the boilers which have to have water and such to keep running, with steam lines and such, BUT...you need to keep an eye on your pressure levels, which will be conveniently handled by gauges (steampunk isn't steampunk without gauges!) that you can place on steam lines or boilers to give you a visual indication of the pressure (in PSI) in a given steam system. Steam system being defined as either a boiler or a network of contiguous pipes and any machines to which they're connected.

What would happen if you overpressurize a system, with no emergency release (also craftable, attaches to either a boiler or steam pipe)? Depends on what you're talkin about, but in general, things explode. A standard iron boiler would likely end up with roughly the power of half a block of dynamite, whereas an industrial-grade boiler would explode with the force of 4 blocks of dynamite, and the other grades and types will scale between the two. If its pipes that are overpressurized, a random pipe on the system will be chosen, and it'll blow up, but while it won't do any structural damage (this may change, depending on pipe grade), any living things nearby will take a pretty large hit from the boiling-hot steam and shrapnel.

But! Its not all steam, after all, Thief isn't all technology. There's some magic, as well, and I've always been fond of well-done magitech. One thing I plan on making is steam golems. They're similar to iron golems, but require more in the way of resources, have a bit less health, but will hit much harder. Now that I think about it...I wonder how cool it'd be to have a golem that would be able to build a building off blueprints. Just mark a chest (or other inventory) for them to draw from, give them a blueprint to work with, and they'll set to building! Hell, maybe work in something to where you can have more than one working on the same building project, as a team...

That's 'bout the long and short of it, so far, at least. Oh! And, if at all possible and/or feasible, I want the pipes to be bloody circular, or close to it. Round pipes look good, lol.

The ideas that have been in the back of my head:

Animal power: build a device into which an animal is placed. Its movement produces power! But you have to provide food to keep it moving.
Turtle web API: Allows players to access information in their turtles from outside (e.g. a web page on their server) so they can obsessivecompulsively check their power and storage levels anywhere they have internet access, or switch off their engines or reactor if they forgot, without needing to go in-game. (Yes, this would require player authentication)
Steam powered tools and weapons: require charging with steam of course.
Electrified water: because you should be able to kill mobs/enemies by putting uninsulated cables in your swimming pool and powering them

Oohhh~
i like the idea of this one

Building a mob trap out of flowing water, and a few cables round the outside...
i like a lot.

1) Put cables into ocean.
2) Enjoy The Lag
3) Make a new world
^_~

Well, electricity over distance diminishes, so perhaps it only electrifies a certain distance regardless of EU/t input?
That'd stop that type of world damage

Yeah, I'm sure it is solveable, just joking.

Speaking of electric shock. I'd like Tesla Coil to emit real electric discharges with corresponding sound effects! It's pretty boring for now...

I was thinking of some sort of EU machine or something based on dark magic and if you killed a mob (more for testificates or other players) you got moar EU. It'd be abused easily, but it wouldn't work well or at all on skeletons, and only a little bit on zombies. (Zombies have slightly more life in them than skeletons.)

I can definitely see adding this mod to a world...making it with ink sacs or something? But you're right, it is kinda weak :p

But in an adventure map or some dungeon? Torches that emit no light would look amazing and really spooky.

Now that I really think of it, the idea that I had earlier would't be too too if it wouldn't be used for griefing. That would probably be quite a big problem. And yes, i do know what OP means thank you very much.

I want a TE IO Programmer. Lay down one powered furnace, configure the inputs how you want it. Shift click with IO Programmer to copy Input/Output/Redstone config, click any other powered furnace to give it the same config.

Would come in handy when you decide the solution to your problem is 256 Igneous Extruders. :p Would be great for any of the things we do with TE blocks over and over again, like laying down Redstone Energy Cells, Tesseracts, etc. Bonus points if it has a memory that allows you to save and label multiple configurations.

I've always wanted a giant mecha mod. I imagine it built with a combination of IC2 and BC parts, such as mecha engines that move the bits, but powered by EU so that we can add stuff like Lasers and drills, MPS style. And going with the MPS style, the tinker table would equate to a multiblock mecha hangar. It would be insanely difficult to make, but also beautiful.

I also imagined adding a supercharged gravigun to it and giving it the ability to pick up 3x3x3 blocks of stuff.

Throw in thaumcraft and you have giant magimechas that fire magic at you.

Most of all I want an excuse to build a mechahangar.

Man, some days I get tons and tons of ideas, and then get sad because I can't code anything. At all. Sort of.

I feel EXACTLY like that. I want to implement this magical crop system, but I can't so I'm stuck throwing ideas at Markathian.

I kinda want to see more magi-tech things.
Like spells and other things and machines and lightning rods and minions and awesome models.
And mounts.
What do I have to do to get a good mount?
