So whilst I just put these up as part of my new and overdue server ad thread for a very dead server I want to be less dead, I'm also well overdue for posting this here too.

Long ago at the end of last year I started building a fresh server map in Creative for a private server. It was supposed to be a quick job but then Ultimate took forever to be released and I had lots of time to refine it and got carried away. As part of the build I installed a central service hub in the Overworld close to spawn. It's by no means the be all and end all of the map I built but it's a base and it's the most heavily used part of the server (or it's supposed to be!) so here it is.

I should probably do a full screenshot gallery of the entire server actually, there was a lot I built that isn't actually in the Overworld.

I have a habit of prioritising functional builds over pretty ones, but I like to think I get a good mix of both when I'm actually trying. Judge for yourself.

servercity_external.jpg

This is a wide shot of the server city hub. The seed I use has a mushroom island right by the spawn. The fact that monsters never spawn on mushroom isles without forcing them to makes them ideal places to set up a factory hub and safe building area. You can see the factory and secondary buildings all from here. I tried to be as comprehensive as possible building this but then Ultimate went and added extra mods. Which building is the factory itself should be pretty obvious. :p

server_city_annex.jpg

As this is a server map build I also did a significant amount of work on the spawn area itself as well. For a brief time this was going to be the hub but I realised the mushroom isle would be a better fit, however I had already done a lot of work on the spawn so I refitted it to actually do something useful. The spawn is now the Beekeeping Research Annex, with a quick high speed rail link to the main city. This seemed like a good move considering a mushroom isle is a terrible place to breed bees easily.

factory_internal_fusion_reactor_frame.jpg

This shot gives you an idea of how big the factory frame actually is; I wanted it to be highly extensible. In the middle is the recently repaired and refitted fusion reactor assembly. The automated fuel input has been redesigned to use an Applied Energistics-based system. The stained-glass ceiling gives the place a hefty dose of natural light which helps prevent the factory from feeling too isolated and artifical. The wrathlamp lighting is actually a recent afterthought, but it works well.

factory_internal_autocrafter.jpg

Having never really done automation before, I went a bit nuts giving it a try here. This system was added to the factory after the server went live and is my personal pet project right now, although he's mostly complete already. The system's original role was to automatically process the output of a quarry, but as it did so well with that it was quickly extended to perform other duties. It now automatically generates fusion reactor fuel on demand for the factory and keeps a stack of both fuels in a spot not reliant on the AE grid being live, to avoid being cut off from my fuel when I need it most. :)

factory_internal_entrances.jpg

Of course not everybody likes doing everything the automated way and so the factory also contains a set of machines for manual production work. It also has some new entrances I'm trying out as the previous entrance was a bit lame and new players kept walking past it trying to get in. The new entrances are much more obvious but might be a bit too obvious. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this yet but it's definitely better than it was.

server_city_thaumcraft_lab.jpg

This is the inside of the Thaumcraft lab, which also has a few extra freebies from other mods thrown in for good measure.I wanted a reliable place for players to come do Thaumcraft research and I feel I succeeded. :)

server_city_farms.jpg

The farms are actually the oldest part of the build and also the part I've had to redo the most often as Forestry 2 hit whilst I was building the map. The huge output of the farms is partly down to the old-skool Forestry farms being so good. Once there was a biofuel refinery here, but Power Converters made that pointless in a hurry so it was withdrawn. In times past before the age of Tesseracts this farming area was serviced by Magtubes instead.

So how's it look? I don't feel like the hub was my best work on the server but I still like what I managed here nevertheless. :)

Nope, look at the stone, wood, glass / all vanilla textures. They are all of a higher quality
As a matter of fact it is the faithful 64x64 pack. I've been using it for as long as I remember and it almost seems like default to me. Anyway, it's a very nice texture pack and also has compatibility with the FTB modpack which is nice :D

For now I have a little house and a W.I.P Oil / Lava Factory

I like the way you've done the roof on the wood house. I'd have never thought of doing like that even though it's so simple!

In your other pic, are those combustion engines actually doing anything? Visually it appears that you have the valves on the conduit set the wrong way round.

A lot of times, TE conduits don't care if the valves are set the wrong way. It's odd, sometimes it affects it, but sometimes it leaves it.

The visual on the conduit has no impact with engines, from what I can tell. I'm running 20 industrial steam engines the same way, so unless my Quarry is powering itself on fairy dust, it works regardless.

Restarted my DW20 world (using Biomes of Plenty instead of EXBL, and a Misa base texture pack). Didn't have any ideas what I would do, started out in a Savanna so decided to build up a farm/ranch. Haven't built anything techy yet :D
Using a self imposed rule that buildings must use materials found in the local area (based on full size mini map (X button) at zoom 0.5).

In time I'll have golems running the farms, a library for enchanting and thaumcraft research. Also want a building for processing ores, fuel, etc, etc.
For added "challenge" I want to start my MJ power using BT solar and windmills, which means a diamond drawplate, requiring a diamond block and saw first. Sure it'll slow me down, but I'm not in any rush.

My wip undersea base will probably never be completed, we switched from mindcrack (&mystcraft) to ultimate when that came out and are kinda treading water until 1.5 comes to ftb when we're going to restart the server.

NPC village I started with and rebuilt, you can see the glass roof of the base under the water.

Closer view of the outside of the tower, 100% warded exterior, arcane doors etc. (I was having some world loading issues with this outdoors shots). Video of tower when I first made it: clicky

Thaumcraft workroom (door to balcony is to my right). There's a couple of other floors, a nexus floor with 4 portal sand a hidden storeroom.

Ako that place looks amazing! Seeing as you just switched over to Ultimate, you should try putting some bibliocraft stuff into the TC tower. It has some really cool looking blocks.

Thanks man, good call. There are a couple of pieces in there, a bookshelf with my thaumanomicon in it above the research table and an armour stand that isn't in the pics. It could definitely use a lot more :)

Try throwing in some potion racks! or armor stands with all the TF armor. Looks really cool as kind of a "Trohpy Hall" design. In my current base (I will post pictures when it is complete, I am a perfectionist;)) I have kind of the same thing going on. I have a hall made of the nagastone bricks and TC warded stuff to give it that mystical feel, along with TC candles and whatnot. Along the walls there are display cases with different weapons and tools and wands, and the armor that goes with the item in the case is on a stand beside it. For example, I have made 2 gravisuits now. 1 that i wear, and 1 for this hall. Also next to the gravisuit there is the Teslastaff in a case because both of those items are high tech. And then at the end of the hall lies my head collection from my vorpal II sword. (In the middle if the collection is my hydra trophy. i love it)

Look behind you
Ten days in the making...

Just an overview of my small town in the making. I decided to go with oak wood so I can abuse fences. Things always get out of hand if I try and make anything out of micro-blocks. So I wanted to keep the structures simple. Yes, the nearest rubber tree I could find was 200m away from my original hole in the mountain house.
aSrIa.jpg

I started by building the barn, and powering it with milk! I have since added significantly more engines. I started with 4 and worked my way up to the 44 I have now. I have refit the barn with conduits, and plan to add a few more Redstone Energy Cells to the stack in the middle in the near future.
cbxPx.jpg

Next I build a building to house my pulverizer and furnace (I already had them running on a magmatic engine in the hole in the wall before, but I wanted something at least halfway serious). The magma crucible and transposer are for redstone. The power all comes in the barn and is split among the machines using the conduits. I still craft bronze and electrum bars by hand, as I couldn't get the diamond pipe to do a ratio of sorts and just kind of did whatever it wanted.
H1vtT.jpg

I set up a really ghetto sorting systems using barrels and tubes to handle the sheer quantity of stuff my turtles were pumping into my ender chest. Yes, I sleep in the basement and I still move the ores to be handled by hand.
KWU95.jpg

iRJ1u.jpg

After setting that up, I was tired of chopping trees for all those barrels. I looked into tree farm designs and one used gates from buildcraft, so I set up an assembly table for the first time. This is around the point where I upgraded to 22 engines in the barn. I left it open for expansion in the future, using some black xychorium to fill the gaps in the meantime. I've finalized a design using redpower managers instead of buildcraft gates that I will be implementing in the near future. This table might see some use later.

I knew that I wanted to move into IC2 and Gregtech, now that I had my self situated, but I am still to this day scared shitless in the nether. I first entered when it was bugged on our SMP server when the nether first came out (like 2 years ago) and we had like 80 ghasts all around the nether spawn. So, to this day I still cobblestone tunnel everything in the nether. I opted for the casual friendly lazy mode lava generation, through Thermal Expansion! I'm storing it all in a railcraft tank. You don't need near that many Igneous Extruders, but hell they are pretty much free to make.

W0HEz.jpg

I read about Redpower frame quarry's being the most overpowered method of destroying the terrain, I mean mining. So I decided I better get an electric furnace sometime in the near future. Although this project is way down on my list of things to do.
MdD83.png

A quick and dirty map of my village so far. Future goals include a RedPower Manager/Forestry tree farm that I've mapped out in creative to put in the northeast of my village and an IC2 production line in the southwest to process items by hand as I build up into the higher tiers of IC2.I wan't to get the sewers under the road a little more finished and with a sense of unity, but first I need to get some IC2 power lines. A real source of street/building lighting is in order, as well as some more variety, perhaps I will use some of those Thaumcraft trees instead of the oaks in my village.

how do you get a map of your base?

Oh hey I'm putting up base pictures.

Base Entrance, outside looking in: Nothing too fancy, just a sliding piston door.

Base Entrance, inside looking out: Again, nothing too fancy.

Death Star Mark-36 Laser-Based Assembly System, in both an active and inactive state:

Power Generation Room, just below my workshop: The only thing you're missing out on here is a tesseract feeding my XyTank, about 5 magmatic engines, and 6 thermal engines.

Biodome Access, and the biodome itself: Please note that the area that contained flax has been replaced recently by sugar cane.

Mineshaft, currently abandoned and probably going to be permanently locked soon: Yes, that is part of the power supply for my assembly table setup. No, I don't care.

And, just for fun, me in front of my Industrial Blast Furnace:

Please bear in mind that these were taken several weeks ago, and are missing massive chunks of what I've done in the past few weeks. Also, I've omitted some of the screenshots that were extremely badly outdated. I'll have a better version of everything up soon.

Needs more gravel and stuff, I thought. Little decorative rocks would be nice...
yeah but ti works.

Gravel is really meh unless you have a good texture replacement for it.

Maybe when the cermarics get updated in Factorization you can mold some nice zen rocks.
