So whilst I just put these up as part of my new and overdue server ad thread for a very dead server I want to be less dead, I'm also well overdue for posting this here too.
Long ago at the end of last year I started building a fresh server map in Creative for a private server. It was supposed to be a quick job but then Ultimate took forever to be released and I had lots of time to refine it and got carried away. As part of the build I installed a central service hub in the Overworld close to spawn. It's by no means the be all and end all of the map I built but it's a base and it's the most heavily used part of the server (or it's supposed to be!) so here it is.
I should probably do a full screenshot gallery of the entire server actually, there was a lot I built that isn't actually in the Overworld.
I have a habit of prioritising functional builds over pretty ones, but I like to think I get a good mix of both when I'm actually trying. Judge for yourself.
This is a wide shot of the server city hub. The seed I use has a mushroom island right by the spawn. The fact that monsters never spawn on mushroom isles without forcing them to makes them ideal places to set up a factory hub and safe building area. You can see the factory and secondary buildings all from here. I tried to be as comprehensive as possible building this but then Ultimate went and added extra mods. Which building is the factory itself should be pretty obvious.
As this is a server map build I also did a significant amount of work on the spawn area itself as well. For a brief time this was going to be the hub but I realised the mushroom isle would be a better fit, however I had already done a lot of work on the spawn so I refitted it to actually do something useful. The spawn is now the Beekeeping Research Annex, with a quick high speed rail link to the main city. This seemed like a good move considering a mushroom isle is a terrible place to breed bees easily.
This shot gives you an idea of how big the factory frame actually is; I wanted it to be highly extensible. In the middle is the recently repaired and refitted fusion reactor assembly. The automated fuel input has been redesigned to use an Applied Energistics-based system. The stained-glass ceiling gives the place a hefty dose of natural light which helps prevent the factory from feeling too isolated and artifical. The wrathlamp lighting is actually a recent afterthought, but it works well.
Having never really done automation before, I went a bit nuts giving it a try here. This system was added to the factory after the server went live and is my personal pet project right now, although he's mostly complete already. The system's original role was to automatically process the output of a quarry, but as it did so well with that it was quickly extended to perform other duties. It now automatically generates fusion reactor fuel on demand for the factory and keeps a stack of both fuels in a spot not reliant on the AE grid being live, to avoid being cut off from my fuel when I need it most.
Of course not everybody likes doing everything the automated way and so the factory also contains a set of machines for manual production work. It also has some new entrances I'm trying out as the previous entrance was a bit lame and new players kept walking past it trying to get in. The new entrances are much more obvious but might be a bit too obvious. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this yet but it's definitely better than it was.
This is the inside of the Thaumcraft lab, which also has a few extra freebies from other mods thrown in for good measure.I wanted a reliable place for players to come do Thaumcraft research and I feel I succeeded.
The farms are actually the oldest part of the build and also the part I've had to redo the most often as Forestry 2 hit whilst I was building the map. The huge output of the farms is partly down to the old-skool Forestry farms being so good. Once there was a biofuel refinery here, but Power Converters made that pointless in a hurry so it was withdrawn. In times past before the age of Tesseracts this farming area was serviced by Magtubes instead.
So how's it look? I don't feel like the hub was my best work on the server but I still like what I managed here nevertheless.
