Got it to work. For some reason, I had to replace the motor where I wanted it. But now another problem...how do I change the direction from extended to retracted and vice versa. Image is just to test it out, not final product.

quite the set up but if you put the solar panels next to the batbox, next to each other you don't need all the wiring thats the nice thing about redpower is that you don't need wires to connect everything. just from the batboxes to the machines :D

You'll be wanting a screwdriver, or the rechargable replacement, the sonic screwdriver. Right click rotates the block, and shift + right click rotates the movement face (arrow).

That was the only way I was able to get it to work.

Unless there's a screwdriver turtle or something, then you can't do it. The principle thing with frames is that you set up the contraption to run the way you want, so, if you want 2 directions, you need 2 motors.

Two motors in opposite directions? Will that work? How can they get powered at the right time?

Yeah, different directions. The timing/isolation is something that's probably best done using the redpower coloured cables and logic stuff. It's not really a coincidence that the frames rely on complex redstone/power mechanics.

Timer and state cell. Set the timer to the lowest possible setting, and then set the state cell to stay on for however long it takes to pulse the correct amount. You'll probably need a NOT gate too.

timer set to 0.8s gives as fluid of a motion as you can get, it will always be jerky with frames though. I've linked a little video of an elevator I made some months ago, it won't help like a tutorial but will give you a bit of an idea of the kind of thing you can do

The cheap lazyman's RedPowerless solution is to use the camo gates from Secret Rooms. They make a pretty good instabridge if you point them sideways; basically it isn't a gate at all and it builds fake blocks outwards when powered and tries to disguise itself based on surroundings.

I won't miss frames. I never had an easy time getting them working, even following tutorials.
