Should greg allow the omniwrench to be used on his machines?

It'd be a legitimate argument if Greg treated other mods the same way. As is, he has basically copied (although poorly) the OmniWrench functionality and put in an arbitrary limitation for his own machines. So it's less about "I want it to work this way" and more about "I want my mod to be the only one people use for anything."

Do unto others and all that...

 king lemming...quoted...me?! *faints*

I do agree with you there though, i do wish greg wouldn't invade other peoples mods, it makes it so much harder to fight his corner as i do love the mod due to its high amount of endgame content.

Well, there's a minor difference. I have the OmniWrench working with Greg's new system without any reflective hacks; I am playing entirely by the rules of his API. I'm not sure if I actually want to release it or not though, as he'll no doubt view it as an escalation of some sort.

Sadly, I think most of the community would love it if you took that stab back at him.

I honestly wish someone else would take his mod apart piece by piece, take out the good bits, and toss out the crazy.
Things like UU-matter recipies, A few of his power generators, The interchangable circuts, and 4-5 machines. Other then these few things, i utterly dispise Gregtech.

I only wish i could convince a mod-maker to take a swing at it.

King Lemming I say please do it. Its your mod you should make it work however you want it to. If you make a wrench that rules all wrenches then make that! Dont let him steal your ideas and bastardize your mod.. Anyways my 2 cents :)

Agreed.

No offense, but Thermal Expansion > Gregshat.

Don't let him step on your toes. Elsewise he'll just get more bold.

I go back to my point saying that if a mod author wants to keep his mod separate on the picking up machines side of it, they should be rightfully entitled to do so. But while saying this, greg does the exact same thing to other mods by changing recipes, which leads on back to my other point.[DOUBLEPOST=1370794665][/DOUBLEPOST]

.

And that is based on what? Gameplay? Balance? Or just the fact that you dont like the mod author -_-
For me its TE<GregTECH
Due to:
Gameplay: Greg has a longer lasting time to play, TE is mainly for use at the start of the game and mabye for mj requiring machines later on.
Balance: Greg has always been about balance, IRL Iridium is rare as fuck so why shouldn't it be in-game...So on and so forth

I honestly dont think of the mods as mutually exclusive. TE is a mod designed to work with other mods. Its not the end all be all mod that gregtech is trying to do. This gets back to what lemming said... Greg is obviously wanting people to only use his mod. He has added factorization EU based machines, he has added in red power stuff. item tesseracts, the list goes on.. and now the omniwrench.. Gregtech can be like the borg... But when you unlock the evil crap from it it turns into an awesome 7of9 mod that can be really bad ass. He just needs to get his evil borg shit out of his ass...

This is basically an image describing how wrenches interact with GT machines now.
It's actually kinda awesome.
(Taken from quintine on the GT forums - his post, so credit given where credit is due.

And included was Gregs reply to this.

Elored also covers the changes here:

IRL, you don't build a nuclear reactor the size of your head out of few copper plates.

Btw, have you noticed that vanilla tools break as well? I think they should be balanced because my iron pickaxe IRL is still not-broken.

So the way I'm seeing it, GregTech wants to mess around with all of the other mods to fit His idea of balance, but doesn't want other mods to mess with GregTech? Hypocritical.

KL, please fight against this. Make your wrench work around his workaround. Don't be don't let your mods become His bitch.
You're not really seeing it right. GregTech messes with all the other mods to fit the balance of them all combined, while all other mods just care for themself.

There's no "his bitch" to it. I have a coremod. The nuclear option is on the table and I'm not afraid to tell people to outright pick one or the other should it come down to it, I literally do not care.

Incorrect - the vast majority of modders care about cross-mod balance. We just work with each other to find a common ground and fair solutions. Greg is notable in that he doesn't care. Thing is, he is not a renegade cop, Dirty Harry style, he's just a guy that refuses to cooperate with anyone else.

Oh and btw, new version of OmniTools released. ;)

That actually sounds like an awesome plan and definitely has some potential. Also there could be mod integration so when you dismantle a machine theres a 2% chance of you getting an electrical shock and stuff.
Maybe me and a friend of me will work on that. We were already looking for a good idea :D

No I agree there are folks out there that like that sort of ultrahard coreness.

Not me mind you but I see it all the time at the Nexus mods that add realism to crazy levels.

But yeah I'm sure theres a least a few MCers out there that would like more options to fail. Pleases like ultrahard core and anrchy servers might like it.

I find it amusing that you talk about "caring about balance"..

As much as I would laugh my butt off.

I do not think that would be wise. We need less developer drama in the modding community not more.[DOUBLEPOST=1370808621][/DOUBLEPOST]
I'm glad you are easily amused. Maybe you should check the forums more and find the large amount of comments stating that TE is actually one of the best balanced mods. Or, let's hear your argument. :)

I agree right now TE and MFR are that nice sweet spot between being useful but requiring some work vs GT doing everything but requiring a ton of work.

And don't get me wrong I like IC2/GT it is one of my late game things I like to build to.

But the majority of my ealyer mid game is all TE/MFR these days. useful with out being to difficult and handy with out being to OP.

And the look sweet too.

Lemme fix my statement; cross-mod balance*

and what is your criteria of cross-mod balance?
While i know i am not Moasseman i'd like to state that he has a point. Not necessarily with TE (TE is fairly balanced and works like a charm).
MFR and Forestry on the other hand have a somewhat terrible balance when used alongside.
Forestry Farms are a bit expensive but get the job done for you.
MFR Planters and Harvesters are cheap compared to the farms and so are the upgrades. AND you can have a fully automated farm with fertilizer which can be produced and not needs to be mined.
There are some other examples of cross-mod balance which are off (Soul Shards anyone?). The huge main Mods try to balance against each other (also caused by having a developer working on two or more main mods) but many small ones are not equally balanced against a larger pack.

That's largely because IC2 is utterly useless, except as a power framework, and GT doesn't target for early game.
