You know becuase trolling is the best way to be reasonable about issues between userbases and does nothing but endear us more to them. It is not like trolling would cuase any sort of backlash or anything. Cant possbaly paint the FTB userbase in a poor light or anything.
The posts on the page I saw (I didn't read many of them) were "good" trolling (if there is such a thing) where what he was saying what completely legitimate, but the response to it was funny. Ex: "Hey Greg, why do you get so mad when some one modified GT, even though GT modifies half a billion other things?" and then the GT followers start insulting and arguing even though they know that they are wrong.

Ok, now this thread is absolutely ruined compared to the last one. Could we please enter a more civilised conversation without the use of incessant, annoying, unwanted trolling?
No one likes a troll.
No one.

I felt, from a short read with some page skippage, that there were already enough disconcerting things happening in that thread about this topic without anyone doing any trolling at all.

This entire affair has gone into a whole new realm of surreal. As someone struggling to work up the motivation to start on making my own mod, knowing that if I succeed at overcoming my hesitation, that I can look forward to playing in a pool with this sort of shenanigans going on in the deep end? This intimidates me in all the wrong ways.

There is one possible way I could support GregTech remaining in a FTB modpack (that is, one not centered around GregTech):
1. Greg removes all game-crashing malware from his code completely.
2. Greg adds config options to turn off his excessive nerfs. (Preferably, he would actually have some form of organization in the config files, or just a single un-nerfing config (without the infinate resources/sarcasm).)
3. In the FTB download, these configs are set to non-nerfing by default.

Don't add malware and you will be recieved just fine :)

I really don't care what that particular userbase thinks of us, as it seems they have already made up their mind regarding anyone who doesn't bow down and worship greg.
And most of the "trolling" being done was legitimate questions/comments/opinions/concerns, just said in a trollish and funny way.

It is just never a good idea to stir up drama. You can only poke a nest of horents so long before someone gets stung. What is there to be gained by going over there and posting anything when you know ahead of time what the response from the user base will be? It is needless bs drama.

I'm not sure if this'll happen because some of the nerfs remove exploits.
Are these nerfs really the best way to remove exploits? Take tin buckets for example. Instead of removing the recipe for making tin buckets, why not just remove the recipe that lets you turn the buckets back into iron? Same thing with the forestry bronze. (What exactly was the bronze exploit, anyways?)

Exactly right, which is why I haven't been stirring up any drama myself.
I do have fun watching though. It's fascinating in a disturbing sort of way.

But if FTB doesn't use GregTech nerfs, how are they going to remove the exploits? By making there own special mods that remove the exploits?[DOUBLEPOST=1374116875][/DOUBLEPOST]

There were a lot of people posting on there, but I believe Hoff's posts were the only troll-esque ones. I, myself haven't posted there either (I don't have an account there :p).

How about talking to the authors of the mods that create these exploits? I really feel that there has to be a better fix than Greg's "nerf the heck out of whatever's being exploited."

Original IC2 recipe created 2 bronze ingots from 3:1 Copper:Tin. Forestry recipe creates 4 bronze ingots from 3:1 Copper:Tin, giving you a 1 to 1 trade. This was just TOO OVERPOWERED, so Greg nerfed it to 2 bronze ingots to be in line with the IC2 version. And then... he removed the IC2 recipe entirely and nerfed the Forestry recipe again to only 1 ingot for "FUCK YOU, I'M GREG!" reasons.

This is sad. I liked GT and he turned around and went batshit. I hope he grows the fuck up and puts it back on track. The little thread there degenerated into IC2s version of /b/. Now they just reinforce each others stupidity as if its just for the lols and u mads. Its pathetic. Greg will be lucky if no one brings that sort of purposeful malware up with a lawyer. You cannot just do as you please in that manner, there are lines and consequences and aside from that, personal responsibility and integrity actually means something in the MC community.

Some of these exploits are created from Gregs balancing acts. The recent issue with Tinkers and GT is a good one to point to. Tinkers lets you make a tool that can smelt things using what ever furnace recipe there is for it. And lets you also apply furtune to it. So you pick a iron ore block and get 2-4 ingots. Much like other machine bases systems for ore duoubling only its a hand held tool. Sure a litte op but this takes 450 laps and some other things to make possable.

But here is where the issue is. Greg does not let you make or break storage blocks by hand becuase that does not make sense. Instead you compress to make them and .... smelt them to take them appart.

You add these two mods and BAM ore multipling exploit. So the rational thing to do was to wall of text bomb everyone that uses your mod and tell them to huras the other mod maker to remove this exploit to Gregs prefectly blanced mod.
