Blank casts on their own are useless yes, but you put them in a stencil table and make them useful..

no it makes all the different types of casts..
i assume you have older version than i am.
in version that i have(its in latest ultimate beta pack) the only use for blank cast is to make ingot cast on stencil table.
other kinds of casts are made by pouring gold/aluminum on part pattern on casting table

Just tested it... seems it's broked :/ I think it's more likely it's a bug than a feature, as it would make the creation of the likes of cobalt pickaxe heads impossible

Thats my case too. I wish blank casts could be resmelted (even at a loss!)[DOUBLEPOST=1373299674][/DOUBLEPOST]

Whats special with cobalt compared to iron? (ive not used any of the special ores yet)

Just in case, to make a pick head cast:
1) make a STONE pick head in the part crafter
2) place stone pick head in the casting table
3) drop liquid aluminium-brass on it
4) remove both.

i view its as a feature. if you want to make a cobalt pick head you need a pick head cast, which is made by placing pick head patter on casting table and pour gold/aluminum on it. i guess i dont need to explain how to use cast :)

i`m afraid it cannot be done. because you can either of 2 metals to make same cast. i hope they will just get rid of blank casts.

well it's faster but basically both need to be smelted and poured straight into casts... so in regards to what we're talking about, no difference

Basically, you put a stone pickaxe head on the casting table, then pour the aluminium brass on it. That will make your casts.

well I put a wooden pattern in the cast and tried to pour and it wouldn't. So I think only the second works. As in your pour aluminium brass/gold onto a part to get that cast.

Well, in 0.8 of 152wgt pouring it (aluminum brass) on a wooden cast works, and that's my preferred method.

this.

pouring metal on part was a bit tricky. it didnt work with wooden and stone part, but worked with alumite

Wow, the mod is essentially broken now. You don't need chunks to repair an item that has auto repair or a IC2 recharge ability. That sucks

It's still very much possible.

I've broken my shovel multiple times, and it has two auto-repairs on it.

I've found that pouring for the casts depends on the material requirement for the recipe. The tier two tools require 8 ingots for the heads and in 0.8 I've been able to successfully craft casts only as long as I had enough ingots in the smeltery.
