ATG can help--it has an interesting biome distribution config that mimic north-south temperature distribution like on Earth.

Hey everyone!

In this week's episode we go and review the progress on our sewer system and start making sand and clay from cobble. Gotta keep those building materials at hand! Oh and we're having a little trouble with the latest Mystcraft. I blame petrification.

Learn to love AMIDST it works much better with the new temperature mapping system for modded worlds (because Pioneer Terrain Survey by TTFTCUTS hasn't updated unfortunately, it was the only tool that worked in a similar manner to AMIDST that explicitly supported mods, because it ran in-game).

That being said, I wish I could choose the old biome distribution method, or one that's MUCH more strongly weighted towards including all the "non special" biomes at LEAST once before the "average minimum mushroom island" distance (which I want to say is about 10k). Just hit new from seed using AMIDST and note how few jungles, ice plains, mesas, and taigas you see when the map spans 20k blocks (10k from 0,0). It took me nearly 100 seeds to find one with a jungle under 1k from spawn that also had Mega Taiga, Ice Plain Spikes, Mesa, Desert, Swampland, Mushroom Island, Extreme Hills, and was mostly Forest/Plains, not desert, swamp, or one of the cold biomes. It's still not what I want, but at least it has all the parts in the overworld. If I need more, by that time I do have RFTools, so I can make single-biome worlds.

Yeah, about that...

I've updated Pioneer Terrain Survey for 1.7.10 (Forge 1492) but I haven't contacted ttftcuts about it yet so can't release until I get an all clear or ttftcuts just incorporates the changes.

I've sent a PM over on MCForums to see what TTFTCUTS position on this is.

AMIDST is still good for figuring out rough seeds. It doesn't have to boot the whole game or create any terrain. Though if PTS does actually get a 1.7.10 release, I'll certainly use it to refine my seed choices!

Hey all,

Life is FINALLY starting to settle down, and I'm thinking of throwing myself back into the lawn mower blades that is this challenge. I'll try and make more than 1 post this time, and I'm going to try and recruit my design manager/wife.

Mobius, as always a solid inspiration with your R2R workings (just watched you mystcraft your way without a home book), and Vaal, I hope your shoulder heals up well for you, and good luck with the windows 10 dilemmas.

Good luck to you all, and I'll keep you posted what I decide modpack wise/ rules twist wise.

Hi everyone,

Here is my latest, and last episode for this current challenge. Due to having to upgrade to Windows 10 and not being able to use Minecraft 1.6.4 (even with all kinds of updates and supposed fixes) I reverted to Win7 to complete this episode.

I will be starting a new challenge with Minecraft 1.7.10, but a smaller-scope challenge still in the same spirit as this, the Castle Building Challenge! Will be using about half the mods (~80 instead of 160), still the shaders, so I hope you all join me!

Tis a shame that it has come to an end. But I can run TPPI 1.6.4 on Win 10 with no problems. What was it like for you with all the crashing and such?

i FINISHED EDITING THE FOURTH EPISODE, FINALLY!!!

(Huh? Who's that? What? What're you talking about?) It's me! Monarch! Y'know. Person that made M-FCB? I know. It's been too long for me to get one episode done. Well, I did it. I had a lot of trouble getting it done, but it's done. I can't tell you when the next episode will be out. I'm more focused on school and chores at the moment (despite being WAY behind in school).

Thumbnail hasn't been made yet and I haven't uploaded it yet, I just wanted y'all to know it's done and coming very soon.

Hey everyone! I'm back from vacation and have a couple updates for you.

First we continue working on the Cartman's Tinkery:

I'm actually liking how this is turning out. Especially after seeing all the industrial and warehouse buildings in my hometown.

Second I setup a personal windmill using Immersive Engineering.

It looks a bit wonky right now but I have plans!

So, I spent 5 or 6 hours combined recording episodes 5 and 6. It's a lot of play time because when I build things I speed it up to 8x normal speed. This turns an hour-long building process into ~7 or 8 minutes of footage. Thanks to interruptions, though, each episode has been segmented so that I should only have to edit half of it at a time and then put both halves together for a completed episode. Hopefully. We're almost done with stage 2 now, though, so it's definitely worth it. Episode 5 should run close to 55 minutes long and Episode 6 should be near 54:15.

I figured out an easier way of doing things. If I compress the raw fraps AVI files (which run between 50,000 and 70,000 kbps) into MP4 files before editing, I can save on overall wait time for movie maker to render the footage. Unfortunately, by doing this, though, I add an extra step to an already drawn-out process:
  1. Record the episode with Fraps and Audacity
  2. Convert, condense, and merge the footage into a few long MP4s and clip the tail ends off of the commentary (I start Audacity before anything else and end it after everything else)
  3. Drop all the footage and commentary into Movie Maker and line it up (I record myself saying "start" or something similar while pressing a hotkey I've set up with Fraps in order to make this easier).
  4. Save it (because Movie Maker does not support having multiple layers of "music" so this is my workaround). The title doesn't matter.
  5. Drag this combined file back into Movie Maker and start editing (speeding parts up, cutting parts, making parts smoother, adding in transitions, adding music). This is the longest part.
  6. Make a thumbnail
  7. Upload to YouTube and share.
  8. Delete everything you made in the process except for the finished episode and the thumbnail to conserve space.
So, yeah. At least I can save on some time, though.

Ahh the trials of video making, can never get away from the record/edit/images/upload process! Personally I use Bandicam for my recording program, as it gives a number of codec options, resolutions etc. and records three files automatically - video with all combined audio, audio file of just system audio (game sounds, etc), and audio file of just microphone audio.

This way I can easily edit the microphone audio on its own in Audacity (remove noise filter due to computer noise) and then use the three separate files in my editing program (Premiere). I tend to level balance them separately in the editor (throwing away the audio file that comes with the video, as its all noise filled), but you can combine the audio files in audacity so you just have one audio file for each video for easier editing in Movie Maker.

Best Regards!

Well, I already paid for Fraps and it works well. Movie maker, being what it is, just has a hard time because Fraps, as everyone knows, makes huge files. Most of my steps are just working around the limitations of Movie Maker. Sometimes during the "line it all up" part I'll do a few minor edits or if it's individual clips (I'm trying to split the episodes into smaller, easy-to-edit bits) I'll edit the bits individually and then mash it all together.

It's a learning process. When I get the money I'll pay for a better editing program. That'll help more than anything.

I'm not sure what resolution you're uploading but if it's 780p you can use Lightworks basic version which is free and rather powerful. I only stopped using it a few months ago after switching to Sony Movie Studio (aka Vegas light).

Lightworks seems.. intimidating. When I have more time I can check it out. For now, though, I'm fine with Movie Maker.
