I wouldn't say Dirwolf spotlights are boring they are teasers that can show you what the mod is all about and if you want to get into it or not. But Spotlight isn't tutorial and it's not design to teach you. As to DW20 I think he is enjoying mod as he plays with it fair bit in his server series.

No. The setting that changes the sacrificial knife to a sacrifical orb is called 'Idontlikefun' and direwolf uses that setting ;)

You both are correct. I can't stand watching DW20 videos, and I find it very strange that he's doing a spotlight on the mod with the "IDon'tLikeFun" (still calling it "IHateFun" :p) setting. It's just confusing people. And this is probably me but I find it slightly disrespectful to Way that he's not spotlighting the mod the way it comes. I see it as him showing that he doesn't like the mod.

I have nothing against the guy. He makes good videos for people trying to get into modded MC (I watched his videos every day back in 1.5 when I was getting back into Forge mods), but his work isn't for everyone. I find it great BM is getting the publicity it deserves, I just wish it was for every aspect of the mod.

Looked to me like Dire was goaded into playing BM by the mod author. I have it added to my pack because I might decide to use it. but I remain highly skeptical. Its very obtuse and unintuitive, almost all of its most useful functions seem like they were borrowed from another mod and it lacks the graphical oomph of the other lesser-than-Thaumcraft magic mod, Ars Magica 2.

He sounded like he was having fun with the Witchery spotlight.
I think another reason he did the BM spotlight was because many of his followers were asking for it. It may not be one of his favorite mods, but it ranks among the top favorites of mine.

Remember, DW makes videos for a G/PG audience, so, and I think he's said it before, he tries to keep anything inappropriate out of his videos.
Stabbing oneself with a knife to draw out one's life essence, while not graphically inappropriate, still makes the same point. I believe, instead of not liking "fun", he's censoring or toning down things that may be alarming to younger viewers; he does that all the time, anyway.

I understand why he has it that way, but my point still stands that it confuses people.

I think the main problem was that he said that there was also a sacrificial knife but that he preferred to use the orb, which makes it sound like both items exist at the same time. If he had explicitly stated that they both did the same thing and had the same recipe and it was a config to change between them it would have been clearer.

I agree with this. I spent several minutes searching through NEI before I came to the conclusion that he must have a dev build or something.
I did not know about that config setting, obviously...

By contrast, @Vaygrim just finished his Mod Guide on the Tier 5 Altar.

For that matter, check his Blood Magic play list for the other 4 tiers. Personally I like his commentary. He's very thorough and his voice reminds me of the Mayor from Groundhog Day.

Just finished watching that. :p

I like the way Vaygrim covers the tiers, and recommend his videos to anyone who doesn't like a written form, or wants to see everything instead.

Just a point of note...
My tier 5 blood altar with auto-refill (thanks to the well of suffering ritual and SSR) has been completed, allowing me to unlock the Archmage's blood orb and the energy bazooka. Awesomium.

Above my altar is where I placed the ritual; above that is my mob spawner. It's all nice and hidden away, too!
I've also started playing with the basic spell system; the one with mob heads and all that. I have to say this: maybe I won't need to wait for AM2 in 1.7... this system is quite cool.

Someone posted a whole list of what all the combinations did several pages back, and they all do what I'd want out of AM2. So that, combined with the possibilities of this massive advanced spell system means that I won't ever need AM2 again. ;)

Right? This mod is EPIC. It has everything plus extra!
Out of curiosity, what will give me a heal spell?

... but Thaumcraft is still my top mod. :p

I understand the time but it would make it easier to watch if he split it in half. It is hard to find 1 hour free tie to watch youtube. If I have that much free time I would rather play myself than watch someone play.

True, but I just pause hour long videos and come back later. Same effect, only it's under my control on if I want to watch it all in one go or not.
