Not so simple question. But I wanted to try something different for my 1.7 world and that was to make a base in the nether. Now I know technically anything is possible. But what should I take note for/account for? I know I can't put water in the nether so Im unsure what to do for food there. I'm also unsure of how spawning works in the nether. Do mobs follow the can't spawn in light rule so if I torch my place up I dont need to worry about random pigmen spawning in my base? Also, can ghasts see through glass. And anything else I may not be taking into account? Is the nether always counted as night or day or does it alternate?
If I could get neutral mobs into the nether, does it adversely affect them? Can I build a portal to other maps in the nether(Aka Twilight Forest portal/The End Portal)
Im kinda bored of the overworld and Twilight Forest has no nice areas to make a base in.
For food: zombie pigmen drop rotten flesh which can be made into zombie jerky (nourishing and not poisonous), or you can farm mushrooms.
If you want to grow crops in the absence of water, fertilised soil works as farmland even without water.
Not 100% sure but I think zomble pigmen will only spawn on netherrack, and as usual if you make your floor out of bottom half slabs nothing can spawn on it anyway.
And no, ghasts can't see through blocks, even if those blocks are transparent.
Livestock can survive in the nether, but if you implant grass for them it wont grow back when they eat it iirc.
