I'm curious, which Optifine version works for you? I used it in 1.6.4 but noticed some graphical errors, such as headless cows
The Ultra version will do that to you in 1.6.4. Use the Standard version instead.

Awesome! Cheers dude :) My computer is a little on the low spec side (32 bit, 3 GB of RAM) - do you think I'm likely to struggle a bit? I realise that's probably quite hard to judge...
That is probably a bit low for such a large pack. I am running it with 4GB allocated to the game(With x64 texturepack). But yeah not easy to judge as I am using ATG and other stuff I added to the pack AND got a somewhat extensive base/build I have to battle with as well at this point.

That's totally fair enough :D I will have to start following your journal - looks really interesting!

The latest Ultra for 1.7.10. I haven't met any headless cows yet, but there are few quirks.
- Most common issue was chunks flickering when you have multi-core chunk loading on. It is fixed by disabling "Threading optimization" in the nVidia Control Panel. The setting name is different in the AMD Control Panel, but I don't know it.
- The other issue I had is flickering of JABBA barrels, TE Cache and other blocks with similar faces. This is resolved with turning one of the OptiFine texture settings off - It says to do this in the setting description - Sorry for not remembering which setting it is.
- I also get huge performance drop when using the NEI light level overlay, but it is inconsistent and I am yet to find which combination of mods and situations causes it.

Ultra doesn't work for me, it crashes on startup. Standard seems to be fine though.

The light level overlay always causes my FPS to drop, with or without Optifine.

Aye, the light level overlay in NEI has always caused a drop in framerate for me, as well, regardless of what mod combo I'm using. I just figured it was the cost of adding some extra calculations and rendering each tick.

Hmm, thanks. Also any performance differences between windows 7 and windows 10?

There have been performance improvements in every version since XP... Some would argue that Vista was worse, but you really had to build your PC specifically for Vista (like I did with my first dual-core setup) as it was old-tech unfriendly.

If you are not the adventurous type, willing to reformat and reload your computer from scratch or at least build a dual-boot system then stay away from Windows 10 Technical Preview for now... each new "image" requires a complete rebuild as seamless updates are the last thing Microsoft works on, and images will be coming more frequently as we get nearer to the projected fall release.

Windows 10 shows the average performance improvement of about 15% per new version I've seen on my current hardware... That might be an indicator or it may be because Vista and Win7 were written to use fewer cores than Win8 and newer does (I have 8 cores).

Does Windows 10 at least have a Start menu or something resembling it? Hell, I'd settle with the "menu" you get in 8.1, since at least it exists.

The current Windows10 "Start Button" works kind of like the implementation in Windows 8.1, except that when you left click the Icon in the lower left (it still looks like the Win8 one at this time) instead of getting the "Full Metro" you get a menu similar to the Win7 one, with the right-hand portion a smaller "Metro" style with live icons.

Left clicking the icon gives an old-school text menu containing useful selections such as Control Panel, Administrator Tools and the like.

I'll try to get screen picks in a bit if I can and insert them in this reply.

[Edit] I guess the "Snipping Tool" that comes with Win10TP is also in beta... I click the Icon to bring up the start menus, and clicking the snipping tool pulls the focus to it, closing all other pull-up menus to prepare for a capture

Print-Screen doesn't work? Then ctrl-v into Paint.

I've heard multiple people say TiC rapiers were nerfed to not ignore all armour, however I've been unable to find a primary source for this. Does anyone know of such a source? I've been trying to test it myself, but so far I haven't seen any mobs wearing anything better than leather.

They only bypass ItemArmor not stuff that implements ISpecialArmor...
What does this mean?
Basically, does the armour have some sort of special properies? (you can fly while wearing it, it protects you from fire damage, it has RF charge (or some other sort of charging mechanic, like Mana) etc.) then the TiC rapier will do jack to you. But it it is some good ol' vanilla type armour, your gonna die :p

No offence, but this doesn't really answer my question. I'm only concerned with knowing what's best when fighting armoured mobs - something with ultra-high damage, or something that bypasses armour? If the rapier really does bypass 100% of vanilla armour then obviously I'll go with that. If it only bypasses a portion of it, then something with better base damage will be better.

It answers your question perfectly, IF you know what armour is classed as what :p
Let's make it easier...
If the mobs are only wearing vanilla armour a rapier that has the same damage output as a cutlass (for example) will do more damage to the mob, as it bypasses the armour. However, some modded armour can be this special armour, although, I can't recall any special armour worn by mobs, and if it is worn, then both swords would be just as effective, however your "bonus" probably makes the other sword (not the rapier) better. As the rapier's bonus is that it bypasses armour, while other swords do other things, e.g. the cleaver increases the chance that a mob drops a head when killed.
