Playing on a slightly modified FTBLite2 (1.6.4), and I'm trying to make a magic mirror from Thaumcraft. The first one I made was perfectly fine, however after 5 retries I still can't make the second one. It just destroys one of the items and wont finish even if I replace it. I'm a noob to Thaumcraft so I have no idea how to combat high instability. What do I do?
To fight instability you need to place certain items symmetrically around the infusion altar. That is, if you place one on one side of the altar, then you need to place on on the exact opposite side side, drawing a line perpendicular to the Y-axis of Runic matrix. If the items are not matched by a symmetric mate, they will add to instability instead.

The most commonly used are mob heads/skulls(skeleton, Zombie, creeper, as long as they have that item ID), Crystal Clusters and the TC wax candles.
An easy way to deal with it is to just leave a false "floor" under the altar and fill it with an entire layer of items.

This post will tell you more about the ranges etc. of the altar: https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebea..._to_know_how_thaumcraft_infusion_symmetry_is/
It is a bit old, but think most is still valid(might be perfect for your version :p)

I'll try that, I think I have some spare zombie heads lying around. Thanks for the help!

Also note that if the infusion gets paused for one reason or another (i.e. an item gets knocked off the pedestal and you don't replace it in time), the runic matrix will lose some of the essentia it consumed and refuse to proceed with the infusion until that essentia is replaced. When that happens, look at the Runic Matrix with your goggles of revealing; it'll tell you what's missing. It's also a good idea to have some extra essentia of each aspect needed for the infusion in your warded jars for precisely this reason. And extra copies of the items needed for the infusion, for that matter. If you load them into hoppers aimed at the pedstals, they'll be replaced automatically if the ones on the pedestals get knocked off.

Candles many many candles. I like to use two separate colours, 4 lines comeing from the center of the matrix to in a sense quarter off each plane of symmetry. To make adjusting them easier.
I also do what others are suggesting by making a false floor for candles. I make it 2 blocks high crystal clusters on the ceiling and candles on the floor.

It's expensive but depending on the version of both mods used. Botania's mana pylons are infusion stabilizers. In addition floating flowers also reduce instability.

Also make sure the items are also placed symetrical too. This is however impossible for infusions that require an odd number of items. I really hate those ones but I think Azanor wants you to have to deal with instability on these ones.

Try not to be a scrub and try infusions above minor without some form of stabilizers.
Watching Direwolf20 try to infuse a livingwood wand core in his skyblock series was painful. Chances are he had a lot of heads to spam too. Failing that he could simply obtain via shards from hammering certain stuff.

Hi, for using lightning rod effectively (from immersive engineering mod) , i move up to a mystcraft eternal storm age and rain muffler not blocking lightning sounds on FTB Infinity Evolved. Its very annoying every 2 second loud thunder sound playing on background. Is there way to disable lightning sound or only decrease its volume?

there are side solutions like using chunkloader+ tesseract and live somewhere else but i dont like to use multiple base. But If there is no easy way to fix that sound, its my only option.

Honestly I think to some degree it was a bit of laziness and a bit of something different than what very experienced people do. It's more exciting I think for a lot of people to see the infusion be a bit more than just place these items here ensure you have the right essentia and then right click the runic matrix and wait for the item on a highly stable altar. I personally hope azanor improves the infusion altar mechanics such that a perfectly stabilized altar isn't possible.

Just keep watching, you won't recognize Dire's setup soon... I watch the LP and also Soaryn's live Twitch stream where Dire does most of his recording, and he's got about a 10 episode backlog :D

Well, at least you didn't taint your base. That happened to a friend of mine on a server. We did catch it in time to use a few silverwood trees.

Note, he tried to setup up auto infusion.

Thanks for the advice! Out of all the items, which one reduces instability the most? Or do they all reduce instability by the same amount?

Pretty sure they reduce it the same amount. If you have Witching gadgets in your pack, the something abacus can tell ya how stable your altar is

No, the way the game calculates all items are worth exactly the same amount of stability in an altar. Only quantity that matters really.
Exactly. All paired up items will give the same small reduction in instability. Any single items will add to it instead. So be careful which decoration items you use near your altar.

The only "exception" is the Pedestals(empty double the value of a filled). Their values are much higher, but they will only ever add instability(if not paired) or keep it the same if properly paired.

Pylons have a lot of stability I think.
Could you be thinking of their ability to work as Enchantment table "bookcases"?

I was planning on playing Hubris/Atonement and I have something I haven't grasped from the torrents of threads I read.

Living on a floating platform: does it spare me of taint? How? Doesn't it climb? Do I get a cobblestone pillar surrounded by ladders? What?

The biome can change, but your platform won't change into tainted blocks unless you have a cobblestone, stone, dirt, grass, log, or leaf tower to it. (Maybe sand and gravel too but not sure, and other blocks may be tainted too but I'm not 100% sure if/what they are.)
