The biome can change, but your platform won't change into tainted blocks unless you have a cobblestone, stone, dirt, grass, log, or leaf tower to it. (Maybe sand and gravel too but not sure, and other blocks may be tainted too but I'm not 100% sure if/what they are.)
So it has to be smooth stone, planks, furnaces or something else?

Not smooth stone. Furnaces would work, and planks might. But I can't remember all the blocks that turn into crusted taint. I'm sure there is a somewhat up to date wiki out there, like anything thaumcraft. Or if you have carpenters blocks. That would be a good idea, then you could use whatever block you want. Or have slabs/stairs. But for the most part blocks you get directly from the world usually won't work. Stone Bricks, normal Bricks, these will work just fine.

I was planning on playing Hubris/Atonement and I have something I haven't grasped from the torrents of threads I read.

Living on a floating platform: does it spare me of taint? How? Doesn't it climb? Do I get a cobblestone pillar surrounded by ladders? What?
Tainted fibers will spread up nearly any solid block. The only thing that will stop them, as far as I know, is a sealed room made entirely of artificial materials (wood planks, cobblestone, glass, doors, etc.) or an air gap two blocks wide, if not three. So to keep your island taint-free, you'll want to completely disconnect it from the ground. If you don't have access to flight yet, you could use a TiCo drawbridge to bridge the gap temporarily when you need to, and as long as you make sure to retract it when you're across, no tendrils should be able to spread across. Alternatively, you could just jump across, perhaps assisted by TiCo slime blocks.

Do keep in mind that your alchemical mistakes on the island can create tainted fibers out of nothing. If that happens, you'll just have to clean it up before it spreads. Quickest way is with a bucket of water- clicking the bucket on a tainted fiber will replace it with a water source block, which you can then pick back up.

Or, if you've progressed far enough in the mod, you could just slap down an Ethereal Bloom. They untaint all the biomes within eight blocks or so, destroying any and all tainted fibers and whatnot from bedrock to skybox.

That's assuming you're running TC4. If you're on Minecraft 1.8 or 1.9, your mileage may vary.

I was thinking of having a pillar of cobblestone (or maybe planks, as you say those don't get tainted) with ladders on all sides going up to the platform that has no direct contact with the pillar/ladders. Would this work?

Yeah, I was thinking about the ladders and the tainted fibers don't cling to them, but of course test what block you use, and test to see if fibers climb ladders or not. And you could plant silverwood trees until you get a pure node one. It will create some magical forest and I think will protect from taint spread. Someone can confirm or deny this.

On atonment you DO get a free ethereal bloom... but living on a sky island isnt' the best idea starting out due to the weather mod. I can't speak for hubris though.

I don't know about ladders, but I know for a fact that taint fibers will climb Railcraft stone fences. You could test it, but without more data I wouldn't rely on it.

The only issue with using, for instance, wood logs as a building material in taint biomes is that the taint fibers will turn the logs into crusted taint, which does not support leaves, falls like sand, and will melt into flux goo once you purify the biome. Dirt and grass will also turn into tainted soil, but as fas as I know, it just acts like regular grass.

Pure nodes in TC4 will indeed create a magical forest biome around them, replacing Tainted Lands and any other biome. If you remove the node, the taint fibers will probably encroach back into the area where the magical forest was, but as long as you leave the node in place you'll be fine.

Quick Question: Which is more effecient, IndustrialCraft2's Geothermal generator or the Extra Utilities Lava Generator?

That would depend on if the power you are looking for is EU (IC2) or RF (everything else). The XU Lava Generator was nerfed a while ago, so it is no longer a go to power supply under most circumstances. The TE Magmatic Dynamo is a superior generator for RF production if it is available to you.

I want to create a fully functional EnderIO AE2 system, which is possible, in part, by using the Inventory Panel to access my item stashes (chests, barrels, whatever).

Now, rather than setting cable from here to Japan, I was wondering if this is possible using something other than Dimension Transceivers (does not work yet; has been suggested) or Tesseracts. Any ideas?

Edit: grammar

Anyone know if there's a sort of extra destructive fire in Infinity? I'm looking to burn out part of a Thicket biome and Thaumic Tinkerer has elemental fire, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I would use regular fire but to my knowledge it just tends to burn itself out and doesn't spread too far.

Ooo, ooo, I know just the thing.

I'm almost positive it's the Afrit from Lycanite's mobs (so you'd have to install that). It randomly spawns from fire or lava. Here is what it looks like (the Afrit)

Here is what it can do (again, I'm almost positive it's him the cause, buuuuuuut, I could be wrong; still it does what you seem to want) here.

Edit: I didn't want you to go through the whole video. I fiuxed with the links to the correct time.

Why not just drop a few buckets of Lava in strategic places? Lava will do most of the work, plus catch fires to.clean up some.more.

Edit: Also, Blazing Pyrotheum

Blazing Pyrotheum Florbs. I once used them to burn down a Natura Redwood that didn't grow exactly how I wanted it to. It makes an awful mess, though.

All those lighting updates. I can hear my CPU screaming in pain just thinking about it.

My apologie if these question's have already been asked.

  • What's the best setup to autocraft AE2 Processors?
  • How do you get a Ender Quarry to recognize a tesseract as a suitible inventory, and have it transport items through said tesseract to an AE2 ME system? (I'm currently using a ender chest, but this is a terrible setup because it requires two sides of the Ender Quarry to be free, one for the tesseract to power it, and one for a transfer node-to-enderchest to extract the items and transport it where my ME can them import the item's into the system. Is there a better setup than this?)
  • How do you flatten large areas of land in a matter of seconds/minutes? (I'd rather not try to mine all 30,000 blocks in a 100x100x3{Roughly} area, and tips/tricks?)
  • Can someone explain AE2's P2P's fuctionallity to me? Also, how to properly set it up? Maybe link me to a few videos/guides how how it works, and how to set it up? (I've tried working with it and figuring it out on my own for a few days now, and cant seem to wrap myself around it, maybe i'm missing something? I've tried finding video's about it online too, but none i've found has help me. Not to mention, some videos bearly even pertain to the subject, even though the video is labled something like "Setting up AE2's P2Ps"... Get 23 minutes into the video before he actually sets up any P2Ps then only works on it for 2-3 minutes, not explaining anything. TL;DR - I cant find good Youtube videos on P2P)
  • How do MFR farms work?
  • Which tree farm is more effective; MFR's or Steve's Carts?
  • Is there an alternative to Unstable Ingots? (I'm using a cheap mouse, and because of this, it's cost my Steve his life more than a few times.)

Can someone read this crash log and tell me why im crashing?

http://pastebin.com/3jKsqWdm

  1. EnderIO: Found the following problem(s) with your installation:
  2. * An unknown AE2 API is installed (rv3 from appliedenergistics2-rv3-beta-5.jar).
  3. Ender IO was build against API version rv2 and may or may not work with a newer version.
  4. * The RF API that is being used (1.7.10R1.0.2 from <unknown>) differes from that that is reported as being loaded (1.7.10R1.0.3 from SolarExpansion-Basic-1.6a.jar).
  5. It is a supported version, but that difference may lead to problems.
  6. This may have caused the error. Try reproducing the crash WITHOUT this/these mod(s) before reporting it.
