Can someone help me to get started with thaumcraft reseach? I try to scan simple items, but I frequently run into "you need to learn about life" (not exact message) but I have no idea what items I need to scan for the life aspect.
In short, can someone tell me what items I should scan to actually get started with research? (Please include a "spoiler" tab/button)

If you read the Aspects entry in the Thaumonomnomnom closely, you can see there's a hint to get started, something like "The simplest compound aspect is Victus, which is made of Aqua and Terra". Unless that combination has been altered and I'm unaware of it...
Anyway, you'll need to combine Aqua and Terra in the Research Table before being able to scan most things. From there, try combining other aspects.

If you insist on scanning stuff soley for reserarch... there is but one thing with life but not a compound containing life, but it's fairly dangerous stuff.

If my crytic hint isn't enough, check spoiler (although this thread is likely chock full of them anyway....)
Pretty much any naturual taint stuff (like fiberous taint)
It's probibly easier and safer to combine Terra and Aqua to get Ven... I mean Victus).

Is there any particular reason why Infinity and Direwolf20 packs stick with version 2.1.0.1067 of Biomes O Plenty?
(Latest build for 1.7.10 is 2.1.0.1274)

Or to say this differently: It is safe for me to update my Infinity/Direwolf20 based pack with version 2.1.0.1274 of BoP?
Thank you in advance!

The modpacks never/rarely use the most recent versions of mods, as there would be no way of knowing how many and which bugs that version have AND which bugs it might cause with other mods. Extensive testing goes on before they update to new versions of mods.

So choosing up update a mod around these precautions you will be putting yourself at risk for all kinds of problems.

Thank you! But I know that. :p
My question was more "Is there a known reason not to update?" (I'm sorry, my English is terrible ).
So, I looks like I'll have to do some testing before pushing this to my server! :D
Thank you again! (Anyway ;))

How do you add a mob head to a tinker tool? Its fully repaired, has multiple modifiers avaiable, tried every table i know of i cant add it

Are you using Iguana Tinker's Tweaks, and are mob head upgrades enabled in that mod's config?

Also, are you sure you're using the right mob head?

Im playing agrarian skies 2 so it does have iguana tweeks, not sure on the config but it when i mouse over the head it says its applicable to x material. And ive tried multiple different heads, differnt mobs and headcrumbs. All show they are applicable

does the deep dark work like the nether? as far as coords are concerned? Does each person have their own return portal? or does each deep dark portal go to the same location?

IIRC everyone in a server share the same portal back from the deep dark. And the return portal goes to world spawn in the overworld.

I think it works more like the nether portal. But I've admittedly not payed too much attention when I've used the portal on a server.

I'm currently using basic BC pipes in my DW20 1.7 pack... I'm curious what happened to logistics pipes... mk2 request pipe etc... miss my advanced functional pipes :(

Hello,
Any way to see the amount of energy any given fuel will produce?
I mean, i want to know which fuel is better in furnace - some wooden planks or charcoal? How much steam will produce coal dust versus coal coke?
OK, one way is to google all the fuel, but i want to see it ingame. In MC1.4.7 NEI used to have this function, but in MC1.7.10 i cant see it. Any other mod outthere?

IIRC Ender IO puts a tooltip of the burn time of all fuels in a furnace, I'll try to confirm which mod adds that feature.

Edit: Yup, Ender IO
2nd edit: The burn time is I believe in ticks, so to find the number of items able to be smelted divide it by 200.

Thank you, but that a quite heavy mod i must say, there are a lot of other useless for me features, as i only need them fuel tips...

ON Infinity, when you create the Twilight Forest Portal and try to return from the other side, are you supposed to be sent to some weird ass destination? I broke none of the portals. I just went in and back out, and I appeared in some underground cave. When I took the "new" portal, I ended up in another different place within the Forest.

Right now I think I have 6 different Overworld and Forest portals (3 on each side).

Is this a feature?

We have a server hosted through a company we've been using for the past 2 years with 1.28 GB mem, running the Monster pack for a long time. We've recently started a FTB Infinity 1.7.10 pack world v 1.3.4
I tried updating it to the latest 1.5.1, and the CPU usage went from averaging 70% to running out of memory and pegging the CPU usage at 100%. Is there that much difference from 1.3.4 (or 1.4.1 which my host says runs fine after testing it) to 1.5.1? A memory leak anyone knows about?
