and would anyone really miss basalt or marble with the wide array of alternatives?

I know the BP generates marble veins, i spawned right next to one in v3.0.1.
I actually like the variety it adds in transport tubing and the fact that they arnt as derpy as buildcraft pipes, though i think we might need to greggify the BP tubes ... maybe brass plates at least?

It's worth noting that Chisel also adds a form of marble and quarried stone from railcraft is similar again if you want it. As for tubing buildcraft tubing is more an issue as it's real power is gated behind higher tier machines thanks to gates, not sure what you mean by derpy though as I've always found it pretty good. Even without gates it's pretty good though, not as powerful but still pretty good.

It is most noticeable with the 36LP, but GT's tier 2 boiler generates 24000 steam per charcoal, that's about as much as a Railcraft 1LP (the 36LP is 50% more efficient with 36000). Also, I build for the time when I consume that power almost constantly (I'm at the point where I need to smelt aluminium and electrolyze bauxit and galena and where I'll build MV machines, so that might not be far from the truth), and I couldn't run a large GT boiler constantly (1 charcoal-equivalent per second, i.e. one alumentum every four seconds), nor do I need the amount of power it makes just now. If GT's boilers were scaleable, things might be different.

BTW, here's a schematic of my power setup: my attempts to make it completely self-sustaining have failed since I haven't found a way to remove a turbine rotor from its housing using conduits, but I can live with it for now. Two elements have to wait until I can make an MV assembler (Production table auto-transfer) and a BC assembly table (getting rid of excess creosote oil), but it's good enough for now (there's a mistake in the schematic, too: the soft hammer's second aspect is limus, not arbor). Also, I have only one reservoir not three. The schematic would've become too confusing with even more connections.

Leldra, this is FREAKING AMAZING! Mad props on the cool setup (and sharing it with us!). What program do you use to plot this kind of stuff?

@Jason McRay - did 3.0.1 ship with old scripts, or did the installer not wipe the old scripts?
Im seeing alot of scripting errors when i load into my newset world ...

You need to delete the old script folder, because FTB launcher is not replacing it.

About the immerse lagging. We are trying to pinpoint the issue, where its originating from. I have personaly not experienced any TPS issues on my own PC/Server. Will try to fix it ASAP. Chance is that one of the new mods is not happy. If anyone is up to helping out and trying to remove "new" mods added in v3, my thanks.

Sorry about the issue, and thank you for your patience.

@Sheepthief :
Thank you :) I made the schematic with MS Excel. BTW, it's "Ieldra" not "Leldra"

As for the setup itself, it does have the flaw that the designed auto-repair of the rotor doesn't work because I have found nothing that can pull the rotor out of its housing. That really bugs me. It's not a big limitation in practical terms but it's the principle of the thing. I tend to keep banging my head against such problems until they give way, but there appears no way to do it that doesn't require installing other mods. Possibly routers could do it, or SFM. I also haven't tested if the Thaumic Restorer accepts the rotor as valid - my boiler is just heating up for the first time. LOL, sometimes it appears like modded Minecraft is some kind of arms race between modders who don't want specific parts of their mods to be automated, and players - and other modders - coming up with ways to do it anyway. I recall when DW20 automated the AE grindstone using Factorization's robot arm. That was cool.

Guys, who's lagging? I need to know how far you are into the game and what kinds of stuff you're doing. And whether its on a server or single player.

Couple of things that can cause lag:
* redstone wiring loops
* that redcrystal stuff in that thaumcraft addon whose name escapes me.

So question time, why did project red get swapped for bluepower? Serious question as that seems to have been unneeded.
Sometimes mods are added, not because they must be, but because they can be ;)

Honest answer: because its less-used and Jason often likes to run with different mods than everyone else.

That said, if peeps come up with a strong argument about why BP is crap and RP more fitting (or some other similar mod) he always listens to good arguments :)

The only part of PR I care about is the redstone logic. Does BP have that? If not, BP is crap and PR is more fitting...well, actually I couldn't say, I don't know BP well, but I would miss the redstone logic quite a bit.

It has everything PR has, + some stuff on top of that.

BP has redstone logic. What I'm trying to remember, and failing, is whether you can place the circuits on the sides of blocks the same as PR.

Thanks. I guess that "+some stuff" needs to be explored, then :)
Ieldra, it occurs to me that we've been trying to sort out a decent solution to early-game piping/automation.

You may find BP has some nice tools for this, specifically all the good-old RP tube stuff. If so, you'll be doing me a massive favour if you report on it, cuz I'm curious myself :)

A question to Infitech players, out of curiosity:

If you ascend a GT tech tier, do you build a full complement of machines of the new tier, or do you retain some older ones? I mean, obviously it's nice to have a faster macerator, ore washing plant and centrifuge, but no one needs a faster forge hammer. Still, I get the impression that even it's expensive, making a full complement of new machines gives you more freedom to place your machines, and it's safer than to have a mixed-voltage power network.

Also, do I understand things correctly that you don't waste power by using higher-tier cables than you need?I find silver cable is more conveniently crafted than annealed copper, and silver ores are rather abundant around my new base.

@Pyure:
I'll check that out. May not be today though.

Love this question.

1) Never. I always have at least two tiers of machines, and frequently three or more. Some basic machines I never retire at all, particularly ANYTHING involved in energy production.
2) If you do want to retire machines, there's ways to recoup the majority of your resources. The arc furnace in particular is a genius bit of coding that lets you get most of the metals and such back.
3) Never use higher-tier cables than you use, ever. Those cables act as (crappy) fuses preventing high voltage from getting into your machines. If you need to send more power, increase their amperage (8x vs 1x, etc) because a machine will never request more amps than it needs.

I just let my LV machines stay there because for every voltage i make a whole new line of machines/cables to NEVER have different voltages nearby.

The new large Turbines are actually quite different.

The way they are build is mostly the same, just some blocks have other names.
You can build turbines to put in from allmost all materials and in 4 sizes.

The important values are in the turbine tooltip.
Effiency should be clear. 100% = 2L Steam for 1EU (RC turbines have 125% efficiency btw.)
Optimal steam flow is how much they should be supplyed with to get their full effiency.
They can use up to 50% more if supplied with but do not produce more energy, below that they also lose effiency.
Currently they take in average every 3000ticks as much damage as they produce EU, but i plan to change that numbers.
Currently 1,000,000dura turbine would run for ~3,000,000ticks(1.75days) @ 1000EU/t
i'm puzzled why it isn't 1 steam for 1 eu, you should be able to balance everything around this concept and then it will be easily to "calculate" how much you need of something.

I just started with automagy and now i see this :( (its automagy that adds redcrystals) i'm using version 0.23 tho and with just a few of them i'm not getting any lag i think.. maybe later if i add tons of them tho, good to know thx.

Tsuko, the issues I saw were always happening on servers, and rather hacked up servers at that, so its possible they don't happen at all in single player. Don't stress about it until you see a problem :)

I'm getting appallingly slow worldgen and its also taking a while to call generated chunks out, no fps loss though (for once).
