Yeah, basically, the Sink Shells store clones that protect from death. Shell Storage, on the other hand, is mostly for teleportation, or to allow you to store a body in case of death that is all kitted out, ready to go retrieve your items. But yeah, you need a second Storage Shell to be able to get the first one out (excluding dying, of course).

Nah, don't store the gear with them. Put an enderchest next to each Shell Storage. I carry around a spare Shell Storage, ender chest, and lever in my golden bag of holding and drop it down whenever I find a new city. Build a small walled fort around it. Just toss all my gear in the enderchest when I want to switch shells back to the main base or any other city I've found. Sync isn't expensive at all once you've gotten to the automated gravel sifting age.

On the buried cities issue something had to be done seeing as how currently the only spawners in the city that work during the day are the pigmen and blaze spawners, at least in the above-ground buildings. Who goes into the city at night to clear buildings? ;)

Oh, and one last thing, if you decide to make an automatic acid bath that utilizes one or more droppers do not use the OpenBlocks droppers. Under some conditions they tend to eat items that don't stack. I watched 64 pcbs go into a dropper, none of them came out, ever. Replaced it with a vanilla dropper, smooth sailing.

ok so we are having a very odd problem last couple of days. we have a walled compound, very well lit, walls 5 blocks high. we have close to 200 minecraft days logged on this world, and lately we have tons of zombies spawning at nite in the compound. spawning in the smeltery, on half slabs on our roof, on top of chests and barrels, in the garden on tilled soil where crops are growing- everywhere they shouldn't be. and its only zombies- no other mobs. they spawn within a couple of blocks from where u are standing fighting some others. what on earth is suddenly causing this? and how do we fix this?

Is this since updating to the most recent 1.1.2 .1? if so you could go back a version.

I actually havent updated this time, as I'd already fixed most of the changes, but update is the only thing thats changed recently.

So I noticed as I was lightning my base that using F7 drops my fps by roughly half. Anyone else experienced that? If it's a normal thing might be a 'good to know' for streamers/youtubers.

It's always done that for me. Luckily, when I use it most (early game mining, as I otherwise forget to properly light my mine) it only drops me to about 50-60 fps, so still perfectly playable.

Incidentally, I was flying around the other day looking for cities, and the number of chunk updates was insane. 700+ chunk updates while exploring at times. It usually concerns me when it starts getting above 100, but it was consistently 300+ most of the time. Explains why it chugs like mad generating new terrain.

So last night I managed to run through about 6 games always choosing hard mode. Prior to 1.1.2.1 I had very little problem getting enough bonemeal and rotten flesh to stay alive but so far in all of my tests I haven't made it to a point where I can get enough food / water to stay alive past the 2nd or 3rd day. Overnight I would get maybe 6 bones and 8 rotten flesh, and I've had saplings take up to 11 bonemeal to grow.

I generally stick to the trench design but the tick changes have made it so that mobs pretty much don't even bother coming near the ship anymore. I changed the tick settings from 600=>100 and 100=>10 respectively last night and that seemed to improve the numbers a bit. More testing tonight hopefully, just wanted to give my feedback as a longtime CL player who now can no longer make it through to day 4.

FWIW easy mode made it easy. Plenty of bonemeal which allowed me to get some water and tools to get plenty of dust for iron to start shearing trees.

Actually, this planet is a great place to spend your vacation.

BHqhlMU.png

Lots of sun, a sandy beach and some trees to provide shadow. The house has enough room for a large family, it just needs still some furnishing.

You can go swimming, fishing or just hang back and enjoy a cool breeze in the evening.

It's even close to a city. The shopping there is somewhat lacking, but rumor has it that the nights are a never ending party where you can meet a lot of ... interesting people. :)

This is how it was back in the 1.0.x days of the pack before zombie awareness was added, and I actually liked it better this way. In 1.1.2 if you just stay in your ship all night and have a trench, you don't have to do anything and get tons of zombie flesh and bones in the morning. Too easy IMO.

In 1.0.7, I always had to peak outside and walk around my ship at night to lure zombies to me and my trench to ensure that I would get more than 1-2 zombie flesh in the morning. It had a little more danger to it cause you would have to defend from spiders and watch out for skellys sniping from a distance. Of course with special mobs, this would be even harder now, but It's still possible.

You can craft them without the assembly line. I takes a little more work though. You can also find the assembly line items in the city.

Explore the city and you will find plenty, look for the building with the metal "tech" looking spike sticking out the roof

Otherwise UV lightbox and acid (made in the multiblock)

Any overlay like that gives me an FPS hit.
The Monster Spawn Highlighter mod is massively less laggy than NEI's F7.

What changes to city loot can we look forward to in the upcoming updates? Today I gave up exploring my first city after looting the first row of buildings (plus some Pneumaticraft and TCon further in, of course) because the loot in normal buildings is so underwhelming. Water bottles, some jerky, some ingots, occasionally some diamonds, TNT and flux pickaxes. Given that the cities are so dangerous I'm wearing full diamond armor and have fully leveled up weapons to make the challenge manageable, there doesn't seem to be any point to exploring more than a small fraction of the cities.

You might not have anything to do, I always have something to do at night. I wish I could sleep through the hot, hot days. Whenever you feel like you don't have anything to do you could be sieving/digging more dust.

The only change for me if zombie awareness goes away is that I'll stop using dirty water for water.

Well of course I would spend the night sieving in 1.1.2, but in 1.0.7, I had to lure zombies/fight spiders and sieve at night.

The only reasons for exploring cities is for smeltery and high oven parts (to build your first of each, and then big reactor parts of which I think you can craft everything except the controller.

I explore cities for dyes, heart canisters, and redstone ore as well. I usually take the first ~20 openblocks elevators I run across too. Will snag the vanilla bookcases too for my enchanting needs and magic wood. Usually snag some file cabinets too, handy on the output of my mob grinders to collect weapons/armors that I look through for enchants worth removing. I also snag a lot of the various types of glass just because I don't like making it myself. Particularly fond of the dark glass which you can get a lot of from the reactor buildings. All of the chisel glass types can be turned back into normal glass for crafting. Will also harvest lots of factory/armor blocks because I like building with them and don't want to use my own metal on creating them.

Generally if I can scavenge something from the city instead of crafting it myself I will simply because that is more fun for me. I'm playing Wasteland in Minecraft.

So while you don't technically need anything from the city outside of the minimal parts for a smeltery and a reactor controller it doesn't mean you have to simply ignore everything else that is there.

More testing tonight hopefully, just wanted to give my feedback as a longtime CL player who now can no longer make it through to day 4.

FWIW easy mode made it easy. Plenty of bonemeal which allowed me to get some water and tools to get plenty of dust for iron to start shearing trees.

It is survivable, try new methods, try to get shears on day2, sieve all night1 to get furnace, it does make initial survival much harder. maybe try quick stone gen using the fuel? -(see funshinex video)
If you can make a pick there is 8 blk cobble at the end of the road.

I think we all got so used to using a trench then ZA changed and made it almost redundant, I use much smaller holes and trenches to catch mobs as they wander around and suffocate them, mostly creepers and if they blow they take the drops you need! argh!

Point taken. I phrased my post poorly. Those are the only "needed" reasons to go. Though now that I think about it, heart canisters are another item for that list (can't craft them all).

To complete the quest book, you only need smeltery and high oven. If the quests mean little to you other than guidance, then you really don't ever "need" to visit a city.

Personally, I intend to restore the city at the end I the road, but I need to be careful as I'm 266 days in and still do not have or intend to build a sync chamber. :)

Regarding 1.1.2.1 server. Looks like the button is available again. I didn't go download it yet, because I did eventually get Minetweaker working again. In case anyone is interested (and since I couldn't find any detailed info from earlier posts to what the problem might have been, I'll put them here). That way if we do get another update, and don't see a server available anytime soon, maybe someone can make use of this information.

The new configs from 1.1.2.1, minetweaker thermalexpansion.cfg and dictionary.cfg specifically, had a few entries where a full ID name was used instead of just an ID number. For some reason, this broke things on my windows server. Simply replacing those ID names with the ID numbers fixed all my weird minetweaker issues.
