Yes, just link to the mod in the server topic and point out what version the server is using. If someone tries to join with the wrong version FML will let them know, so it's fairly noob friendly. Make sure you make it obvious in the topic or you will get a lot of people complaining they can't join.

That's a load of crap. The FTB community is HUGE, and what better place to advertise a minecraft hosting service then one on a large minecraft community? It's not free, it's offering a service in exchange for advertisement, which is quite valuable.

Yeah, they seem to go down at least a couple of times a day from my experience. Slow should really find a reliable provider. Then again I bet there's a behind the scene contract of sorts, and money is always more important than users :)

It's really not that hard. A code would just be a series of characters that identifies specific mods/configurations with which the launcher uses to download those specific files from the server. The hosted files would be where they have always been, with CreeperHost.
