Sorry, it's technically called BukkitForge (based off an old project called ForgeBukkit). And no, you don't need anything to be ported to anything. BukkitForge allows you to directly install and run Bukkit plugins on your Forge server (hence the name).

It's Java and there low level base has already been critiqued by quite a few professionals as being incredibly inefficient. You have to remember the origins of MC :p

Not sure why you're uncomfortable loading ForgeBukkit. It's fairly stable so long as you're just using Essentials as it's been directly ported and tested to work with ForgeBukkit. Maybe you should reconsider?

Your better of just trying to get BukkitForge to work with as many of the above plugins as possible. Chances of finding forge/vanilla equivalents is pretty minute if not impossible. Although I can say right now that it's currently not compatible with Citizens, MultiVerse, and BOSEconomy...
